Four years ago today, I made this fire jump and crossed the finish line to become the Spartan Race World Champion. At the time, I dismissed and downplayed the accomplishment. And I struggle every year around this time, wondering if, by celebrating it, I’m just clinging to past glory days.
But you know what? I’m owning it. I’m proud of that world championship, and the strange, crazy journey it’s taken me on. While this past year has been one humbling ride on the struggle bus of rebuilding as an athlete, it’s also forced me to acknowledge that I can offer so much more, to both sport and life, beyond just crossing finish lines. Those finish lines just marked the beginning.
The fire still burns. I’m still hungry. Who knows what it will be, when it will be, or in what way it will show up, but as my high school girlfriends and I always said “keep your fork - the best is yet to come.” #spartanrace
