I'M ALIVE!
Thru snow, ice, and rain. Thru fire. Thru gushing waters and thru the highest of peaks. Thru happiness and heartache. Thru it all. I made it. I really, really just did this. Thing thing I can't even fully comprehend - but will forever be inside of me... It was hard. It was fucking hard. But I am more alive than ever now.

Current mood: exasperated. I spent my morning very deep in two different LNT related Facebook posts, one about leaving painted rocks in the wilderness and the other about dogs in the wilderness.
Painted rocks - someone who clearly didn't know the ins and outs of LNT asked a PCT group if anyone had gotten into the painted rock craze and left any on trail, and if so where! Over 100 comments followed telling her that leaving painted rocks in the backcountry isn't good LNT. However, she got offended around comment three and left the group, stating on her own personal Facebook wall that she had been attacked and would do whatever she wanted to do. This kind of attitude breaks my heart. None of the comments were negative or rude, but just the attempt at posing a different point of view kept her from learning. Most of us probably agree with the commenters in this case - no painted rocks in the wilderness, so let's turn to something that might be nearer and dearer to our hearts - dogs.
My Instagram is filled with adorable dogs, on adventures with their owners. They are wonderfully cute and I'm sure, when looking at them, many people are inspired to get a pup of their own. Meanwhile I think many of us have probably had encounters with dogs off leash on trails or in natural spaces where they aren't allowed. When I worked at Mount Rainier people didn't blink an eye when they claimed their unruly chihuahua, who was aggressively barking at squirrels, was a service dog. What to do?? As an individual I continue to approach other hikers who are breaking rules, even though most of the time I get yelled at, cursed at, or berated. Every once in a while someone admits that they didn't know and I walk away hopeful that they have grown. Maybe on instagram those folks who do have adorable fluffy hiking companions can be really upfront about taking photos of their pooches on leash or pointing out the ways that they choose appropriate and legal hikes to take their dogs on? I think it falls on every one of us to do our part in spreading good LNT ethics. Thoughts? Also thanks for putting up with my LNT rant - never again will I read 100+ FB comments before 7am...

A rare picture with both @nickwenthiking and I. He's usually the man behind the 📸. Thanks for everything Nick, I'm glad I took that first wrong turn at the southern terminus. Covered many miles with this dude and it's only the beginning. #trailfamsinceday1 #pct2017 #hikertrash

Canada! 🇨🇦
.
On September 20th, I arrived at the northern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail, completing a 4.5 month journey from Mexico to Canada!
.
What a wild experience! I'm still overwhelmed at how much there is to process. I got to see and experience so much in a short period of time.
.
Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way: Family, friends, trail fam, random strangers.

What's next? .

MOST RECENT

The Cotswold Way in England was #wild

We left Snoqualmie with high hopes about the four day rain forecast. Above 5000ft though the rain turned to snow.
