“The wisest of the Maiar was Olórin. He too dwelt in Lórien, but his ways took him often to the house of Nienna, and of her he learned pity and patience.” - JRR Tolkien, The Silmarillion
What day is it? #ThranduilThursday? #ThorinThursday? Or maybe #TolkienThursday? Of course it is! But it’s also #GandalfAppreciation day!
I love Gandalf, but I must admit I don’t really know that much about him. What I do know of him comes mainly from the movies for I only just read LotR last March. I’m reading The Silmarillion right now and do you see that quote I started with? I read that in the beginning of the Silm and I didn’t even know that it is speaking of Gandalf. Indeed, I have much to learn! And I wouldn’t have even known that (at least probably not until I pick up The Unfinished Tales) if I hadn’t seen Lu’s (@theisleofapples) post today. Let me tell you, Lu is a treasure trove of knowledge when it comes to all things LotR! Really, all of the Tolkien Tribe are! But I absolutely look forward to her posts each day because not only will she have a beautiful picture for me to ogle, there will be new information for me to learn. If you aren’t following Lu, then you’re missing out! Ok, this was supposed to be a Gandalf/Istari appreciation post, but it’s somehow turned into an @theisleofapples appreciation post. #sorrynotsorry
Day 15: Gandalf/Istari Appreciation
🧙🏼♂️My gorgeous custom wood burned bookmark is from @markedbymary!
I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite #Gandalf quotes, and in return you can tell me yours...
“A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.”
“So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
“Fool of a Took. Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity.” (Poor Pippin)
“YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”
