My son Barrett was only 8.5 months old when he was diagnosed with Type One diabetes. He had an insulin pump attached to his body before he could walk.
Type One is an auto–immune disease. Barrett’s body attacked his pancreas and it no longer produces insulin.
He doesn’t eat too much candy.
He won’t grow out of it.
It wasn’t passed down from a family member.
The long-term effects of diabetes is something I rarely talk about; it is just too scary.
We need to find a cure.
Barrett is 10 years old now and he lives a pretty great life. He plays hockey, he likes school (on most days) and he loves his friends and family. He truly inspires me everyday.
In September, BellaMaas Boutique will start our campaign to give back. Every month we will choose a charity that is close to our hearts and $1 from EVERY purchase will be donated to this well deserved cause. Every little bit helps.
DRIFCAN is our choice for September.
I have personally met Dr. James Shapiro and his amazing team! He and his team are working on the cure for Type One right here in Edmonton. Amazing, right?
You can read more about it at www.drifcan.com
