If you would have told me back at the beginning of 2016 that I would complete 43 races in 33 months, and that I would be competing with other runners younger than me and runner faster than them,
I would not have believed you.
I’m often asked if I really give all the credit to ILoveKickboxing, and my answer is always yes.
Before I started at ILKB I could barely run 2 miles because of constant pain in my knees. I was told to just stop running. I very rarely listen to advice when it comes to things I enjoy the most. I wanted to enjoy running so bad again like when I was in high school. After 2 months of starting at ILKB, I immediately started to notice my weight go down, & my core and legs getting stronger. I decided to slowly start running again. I felt a huge difference in my knees! My weight and the strength in my core, and the strength in my legs from Kickboxing made a significant difference in my running. My form had improved tremendously as well. I did my first 5K in March of 2016 and felt zero pain in my knees. My time was ok for my first race that year of 29:39 at a pace of 9:34min/mile.
Since that first race, my fastest 5K was 22:45 at a pace of 7:18min/mile.
My fastest 10K was 48:52 at a pace of 7:52min/mile.
This isn’t to brag, its to show how hard work, determination, and the want to be physically better than I was before has paid off for me. And to show that you’re never to old to start something new. And to say that yes, Kickboxing not only got me into the best shape of my life physically but also gave me the confidence to not be afraid to stand at the front of the pack at any race. Where as before I would have navigated myself towards the back of the pack because I knew that’s where I would finish.
Proud to be 50 years strong 💪🏼. Thanks ILKB Richardson TX for getting me into the best shape of my life and for helping me maintain it! (Just a few of the medals I’m the most proud of)
