On #ThisDayinHistory 1963, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible. First lady Jacqueline Kennedy rarely accompanied her husband on political outings, but she was beside him, along with Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, for a 10-mile motorcade through the streets of downtown Dallas on November 22. Sitting in a Lincoln convertible, the Kennedys and Connallys waved at the large and enthusiastic crowds gathered along the parade route. As their vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He was 46. Vice President Lyndon Johnson, who was three cars behind President Kennedy in the motorcade, was sworn in as the 36th president of the United States at 2:39 p.m. He took the presidential oath of office aboard Air Force One as it sat on the runway at Dallas Love Field airport. The swearing in was witnessed by some 30 people, including Jacqueline Kennedy, who was still wearing clothes stained with her husband’s blood. Seven minutes later, the presidential jet took off for Washington. The next day, President Johnson issued his first proclamation, declaring November 25 to be a day of national mourning for the slain president. On that Monday, hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of Washington to watch a horse-drawn caisson bear Kennedy’s body from the Capitol Rotunda to St. Matthew’s Catholic Cathedral for a requiem Mass. The solemn procession then continued on to Arlington National Cemetery, where leaders of 99 nations gathered for the state funeral. Kennedy was buried with full military honors on a slope below Arlington House, where an eternal flame was lit by his widow to forever mark the grave. #JFK #1963 #assassination #USHistory

Today on November 23 1808, Napoleon’s Imperial French Army decisively defeated the ever-resistant Spanish Army at the Battle of Tudela.
•••••
The Peninsular War in Spain and Portugal was raging on and Napoleon was desperately trying quell the fierce resistance and hold on to control in the region. In 1808, he left Paris to personally lead his army to recapture Madrid. While marching towards the Spanish capital, Napoleon became increasingly concerned about his flanks being exposed to enemy attack. The Peninsular War had turned into a series of bloody guilleria style attacks, which was being fueled by support and money from Britain.
•••••
Napoleon ordered his trusted friend, Marshal Jean Lannes, to march ahead and attack the Spanish Army under the command of General Castanos. Lannes’ pursued the enemy with 31,000 troops and eventually caught up with them at Tudela. The Spanish lines were hastily assembled that morning and were ill prepared for Napoleon’s well oiled military machine. Lannes’ advanced with only one of his two columns and quickly exposed holes in the enemy line.
•••••
The enemy’s right flank collapsed first, and eventually the whole army began to route. Over 4,000 Spanish soldiers were killed and 3,000 were captured. The rest of the army was able to escape because the mountainous terrain prevented the French cavalry from pursuing them. The Spanish commanders surrendered, and after his victory at Tudela, Napoleon easily march on Madrid and reclaimed the city. He immediately began planning for the reconquest of Portugal.

Follow @param_vir_chakra On #ThisDayInHistory, the Battle of Boyra, an aerial interception was fought between the Indian Air Force and intruding Pakistani Air Force jets that had crossed into Indian Airspace. The Pakistani Army was engaged in combat against the Mukti Bahini (Bengali Guerrilla freedom fighters) and a Battalion size detachment of the Indian Army in the Battle of Garibpur as part of the Bangladesh Liberation War. This battle is significant as it was the first engagement between the Air Forces of India and Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. It is seen as a culmination of the Battle of Garibpur in which the Mitro Bahini at Battalion strength successfully defended the area around Garibpur against a Brigade strength Combined Arms thrust by Pakistani Armed Forces and inflicted heavy casualties on them in the process. The Battle of Boyra is named after the Boyra Salient, a feature which dominates the Garibpur area, and technically it is the Battle over Boyra since it was an aerial battle. This engagement marked the first time in 6 years that aircraft were shot down in air combat in the Indian Subcontinent and the state of increased hostilities in the region which culminated in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and the creation of the country of Bangladesh less than a month later.

The Miss World riots were a series of religiously-motivated riots in the Nigerian city of Kaduna in November 2002, claiming the lives of more than 200 people. The Miss World beauty pageant, that was controversial in Nigeria, was relocated to London after bloody clashes between Muslims and Christians, caused by what some Muslims deemed to be a "blasphemous" article in a Christian newspaper about the event. The Miss World riots were part of the Sharia Conflict in Nigeria, that started in 1999 when several predominantly Islamic states in Northern Nigeria decided to introduce Sharia law.

The first ever televised Doctor Who serial was produced under the title 100,000 BC, but later marketed under the name of its first episode,An Unearthly Child. It marked the official television debut appearance of the Doctorand the beginning of the Doctor Whofranchise in general. The story starred the character's original incarnation, the First Doctor, as well as his granddaughter Susan Foreman. It also introduced Barbara Wrightand Ian Chesterton, who became the Doctor's first companions, though unwillingly whisked away on the Doctor's TARDIS. At the end of the fourth episode, "The Firemaker", the jungles of the recurring alien world of Skaro(not named in this story) were briefly seen before its first full appearance in the following serial.

This adventure also introduced the Doctor's TARDIS, which, in spite of it usually possessing the ability to change its outward appearance (having already previously disguised as an Ionic column and as a sedan chair), was stuck in its most recognisable form of a police box after leaving London in1963.

In #1993 #SnoopDogg (then known as #SnoopDoggyDogg) releases #Doggystyle
Doggystyle debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold over 800K copies in its first week alone, which was the record for a debuting artist and the fastest-selling #HipHop album ever until Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000.

The album was recorded soon following the release of #DrDre's landmark debut album #TheChronic (1992), to which #Snoop Dogg contributed significantly.
Much like The #Chronic, the distinctive sounds of Doggystyle helped introduce the Hip-Hop style of #GFunk to a mainstream audience, bringing forward #WestCoast hip hop as a dominant force in the early 1990s.
Despite some mixed criticism of the album initially upon its release, Doggystyle has earned recognition from many music critics as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the most important hip hop albums ever released.

As of 2008, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified Doggystyle quadruple platinum in sales, and it serves as Snoop Dogg's highest-selling album. #TWIMH
