Confession: I'm actually not crazy about summer. In fact, the thing that I love most about summer...is that it's almost fall!!! Historically, summer and I don't have a great track record. Every break-up I've gone through has been in the summer. Every traumatic event I've endured has been in the summer. Every wretched bug bite I've received has been in the summer.
So, while everyone else patiently waits for the long days to fall upon us, I tend to sit back with a certain degree of hesitancy and a simple desire just to make it out alive.
But in recent years, the season and I have begun to find a middle ground...an appreciation for one another that - up until now - had perhaps been buried under a pile of down blankets and autumn sweaters. The short-lived warmth has showered me with days at the beach and evenings on a patio...summer reading lists and white wine on our front porch...long chats with neighbors and family adventures in the car.
It's been renewing to my spirit to find joy in these long awaited months...even if it has taken me thirty-five years to discover it.
But most of all, there is this... 5:30am.
My most favourite time of day right now.
The time when the sun is just rising and the world is still sleeping. The time when my body is slow moving and my mind is still wandering. The time when anything is possible.
These two hours I experience before my munchkins awake is worth every heart wrenching summer I've ever gone through in order to get here.
There is stillness. There is inspiration. There is creativity beyond measure.
But first...(and always first!)... There is coffee. ❤️ #igerscoffee #theviewfromhere #morning #findthelight #starbucks @starbucks
