Interesting plot: a love affair between a poet, his school friend and the friend’s sister, a poem that defines a generation, and The Great War.

After the near fatal #thestrangerschild the best writer in the English language is back #alanhollinghurst

#bookporn #bookworm #bookstagram #igreads #książki #czytanie #czytaniejestsexy #książka #czytambolubię #czytamwypożyczam #alanhollinghurst #obcedziecko #thestrangerschild #literaturalgbt #literaturaangielska #englishliterature #lgbt #lgbtliterature #wydawnictwomuza #review #blogger #bookblogger #blog #tłumaczenie #translation #jakżyć #tłumaczeniepsujcieksiążek #readingissexy #reading #cultureaddict

✨💚✨"He was asking for memories, too young himself to know that memories are only memories of memories." An elegant, Waugh-ian (though one of the characters describes Brideshead Revisted as 'deplorable') country house novel, spanning decades, and concerning the life and descendants of a war poet, and attitudes to homosexuality, love and loss, Victorian architecture, memories and memoirs. #AlanHollinghurst - whose latest novel is out in days, and I realised I'd never read this one - #TheStrangersChild. I couldn't put it down ✨💚✨.

I've had one DNF from my holiday books, but started this one instead today, and I know already that like the other Hollinghurst's I've read, I'm in safe hands and I'm going to love it. Anyone else read this. #boston #bostonpublicgarden #alanhollinghurst #thestrangerschild #picador #currentlyreading #igreads #bookstagram

In the late summer of 1913 the aristocratic young poet Cecil Valance comes to stay at 'Two Acres', the home of his close Cambridge friend George Sawle. The weekend will be one of excitements and confusions for all the Sawles, but it is on George's 16-year-old sister Daphne that it will have the most lasting impact.
Longlisted for the 2011 Man Booker Prize. #allanhollinghurst #thestrangerschild #picador #bookshelf #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #cambridge #sundaytimes #panmacmillan #reading #bestseller #summer #summerreading #fullcircleandcafeturtle

Happy Tuesday, dear friends! Hope you're all doing fine with your reading! If anyone of you has read THE STRANGER'S CHILD, by Alan Hollinghurst, please let me know! I finally finished it after several weeks of struggling and doubts.. I thought it was the most difficult novel to get through - this because of the author's clever (or say intriguing) grip of storytelling. Instead of let the readers know what actually happens, we have to follow the characters' reactions to the various events - through decades of years. That was really a challenge for my poor brain throughout the whole story! :-) After saying that: The book is so damn well written - and so worth to be read!! #goodbooks #bookoftheday #booklovers #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookworm #readingisfun #readingissexy #readmore #happy #reading #thestrangerschild #alanhollinghurst #author #happymoment #enjoythemoment

The Stranger’s Child (Picador, 2011), the fifth novel by Alan Hollinghurst, tells the story of a minor poet, Cecil Valance, who is killed in the First World War. In 1913 he visits a Cambridge friend, George Sawle, at his home in Stanmore,Middlesex. While there, Valance writes a poem entitled 'Two Acres', about the Sawles' house and addressed, ambiguously, either to George himself or to George's younger sister, Daphne. The poem goes on to become famous and the novel follows the changing reputation of Valance and his poetry in the following decades.
The Stranger’s Child was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty won the 2004 Man Booker Prize. His other novels include The Swimming Pool Library (1988), The Folding Star (1994) and The Spell (1998). His forthcoming novel, The Sparsholt Affair, will come out in October this year. .
