#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Laura, our Kitchen Coordinator Trainee

Behind every successful kitchen team is a wonderful Kitchen Coordinator Trainee to support them. From managing product inventory to ensuring all food & supplies are ordered, stocked and ready to be used – Laura does it all with a huge amount of passion and a smile on her face. The versatility of the job is fantastic, but she gets the greatest satisfaction from being able to watch & learn from the chefs in the kitchen, who are a big source of inspiration to her.
In addition to her love for food & hospitality, Laura adores music – live saxophone music in particular. And we aren’t really too surprised. Both food and music go a long way in creating ambiance – and coming from Brabant, hospitality and conviviality are in her DNA.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Hannah, one of our All-Round Food & Beverage Waitresses
“The early morning has gold in its mouth” or so the famous saying goes, but Hannah couldn’t agree more. Indeed, it’s her favorite time of the day – her chance to delight our guests with her smile and joyful attitude. Even if you’re not a morning person, you will be after our cheerful All-Round Food & Beverage Waitress serves you the perfect cup of coffee.
As a true hedonist, Hannah cherishes fun and joy above it all, be it from her travels to Asia or from a visit to the cinema.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Mary, one of our wonderful Room Attendants

You could stay with us several nights a year and still never meet Mary, and unfortunately – perhaps you never will. Quite like the stagehands at a play, Mary works her housekeeping magic from behind the scenes, ensuring your room is clean and comfortable throughout your stay. Her daily motivation is to bring the definition “home away from home” to life at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, one that we value greatly.
The key to Mary’s heart is likely attached to a spatula, Indeed, her free time is spent cooking for her husband and children, preferably a big pot of Kare-kare – a traditional dish from her home country, Philippines.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Sylvia, our lovely Assistant Front of House Manager
Although Sylvia grew up in the beautiful Black Forest area in the South-West of Germany, Sylvia decided to spread her wings at a young age. They say good things come to those who wait, but Sylvia believes good things come to those who work hard and travel often. And this is exactly what she has done over the past few years. From Florida to Edinburgh and from Abu Dhabi to New York – each step of the way, she developed a stronger attraction for hospitality and a deeper passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
As our Assistant Front of House Manager, she pulls from the team’s diverse and unique skill set to push the True Waldorf Service to the next level.
Now an inhabitant of our beloved capital, Sylvia’s nomadic heart is still craving for new destinations. This is why, each month, Sylvia trades Amsterdam for new cities or countries to add to her list – even if just for one day.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with our lovely Guest Service Supervisor, Marta

With her gracious smile, Marta provides our guests with a warm welcome and helps them get settled in their home away from home.
Born and raised in Portugal, her Mediterranean hospitality blossomed during her Tourism Management studies where her internship allowed her to join the Hilton family. Starting her hospitality career in Human Resources in the Hilton Barcelona, she decided to shift to operations in Malta. Her love for hospitality grew only bigger. 3 years later, Marta decided to change course and set sail to central Europe and has become part of our talented Front of House team. Being part of this team allows her to spend precious time with our guests, learning their different cultures and making their stay an unforgettable one – her favourite part of the job.
Being part of the Waldorf family has developed a taste for luxury hotels, but Marta’s passion for travel really reaches its peak when she can experience the outdoors with a tent.  When she is not travelling with a tent, she likes to visit festivals or concerts in the summer.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Tiago, our Bartender.
Growing up in Faro, Tiago’s career in mixology wasn’t one he initially had in mind for himself. From a young age, he dreamed about becoming a manager at a large corporation, but somewhere along the way he traded the classrooms for bars and the teachers for bartenders. He realised that while logic gets you from A to B, imagination will get you anywhere.
Indeed, it is the creativity that he enjoys most about his job as bartender in our Vault Bar. This, and the ability to learn about so many different cultures – be it through the unique local and foreign ingredients he chooses to work with or through all of our beloved guests he gets to connect with each and every day.

#TheStoriesBeginHere - with our talented Head Bartender, João

Growing up in Aveiro, Portugal, João initially never thought of becoming a bartender. At the age of 16, he started producing music and his ambition of becoming a DJ grew. To kick of his DJ career he started working as a bartender in hopes of playing music at bars. João became truly amazed by the flair bartending skills of his colleagues; who knew exactly how to impress their clientele by their dazzling tricks while creating tasteful cocktails - that's when he decided to study Hospitality Management.
During his studies he worked for several hotels in Portugal as bartender and took bartending courses to improve his skills. But then the moment arrived to make a decision in pursuing his dream of becoming a DJ or exploring his opportunities within the service industry.
We all know his decision, as his internship at the Conrad Algarve as a bartender, led him to head bartender in our Vault bar and beloved colleague at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam.
When he is on stage, you can be sure he will be going above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences in True Waldorf Style for all our guests.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Tom, our amazing Demi-Chef de Parti for Librije’s Zusje Amsterdam

Always in the search for perfection, Tom enjoys spending his time in the kitchen exploring new flavours and combinations – making utmost use of his endless creativity. His responsibilities are within Pastry and Garde, creating the perfect beginning – or ending – to the dining experience of our beloved guests. With a passion for cooking, Tom has decided to leave his small town life in Wirdum, Friesland behind and move to the ‘Big City’ of Amsterdam to develop his cooking skills and gain more experience.  We couldn’t be more pleased that this passion led him to Librije’s Zusje Amsterdam where he quickly became an invaluable asset to the team. He thrives on the positive energy that bursts within the team the moment service starts, striving to create perfect dish after perfect dish.
When Tom is not in the kitchen, you can find him playing football with his friends or spending time with his family back in Friesland.

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Shanice, our Housekeeping Supervisor.

Born in Suriname and raised in Deventer, Shanice decided to come to the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam after finishing her Facility Management Studies.
As Housekeeping Supervisor, she motivates the team in order to have all preparations ready upon the guests’ arrival and to create a home away from home. Each guest has their own personal wishes for their room, making every day different with new challenges to face – something Shanice truly loves about her job.
It is not only the diversity of responsibilities, but the diversity in the team that makes Shanice finish her shift with a smile on her face. She enjoys learning about all the different backgrounds and cultures of her colleagues and guests alike.
At home, Shanice’s housekeeping uniform is replaced by an apron where she bakes the most delicious cakes, cookies, and more for her friends and family. Her favorite? Lemon Blueberry Cake - we can’t wait to try it!

#TheStoriesBeginHere – with Sofie, our Banqueting Shiftleader

Preparing a wedding in our Hooft Ballroom, serving a private dinner in our Maurer room or organizing a large conference in our monumental rooms; no day is the same for Sofie.
This is exactly what thrives our Banqueting Shiftleader in her day to day job.

Sofie’s passion for luxury service started when she worked for a one-Michelin star restaurant in Kaatsheuvel, making her decide to start her study in Hospitality Management. Her passion and study brought her to the sunny Barcelona where the South-European hospitality struck close to her heart, having her stay in the capital of Catalonia for nearly 3 years. On her days off Sofie and her boyfriend travelled through Spain driving from vineyard to vineyard, discovering new flavours and learning more at each stop.
As the love of her life has been living in the Netherlands, it was an easy decision to return to her home country and we could not be more pleased to have her on our team. Her enthusiasm and restless energy reflects the level of passion and luxury she brings to the heart of our legendary True Waldorf Service.

#TheStoriesBeginHere - With Paul, Librije's Zusje Demi-Chef de Rang.

Born and raised in Brabant, hospitality is in Pauls DNA, making it no surprise that his first job was in a local restaurant in Overloon. He started as a steward where he cleaned plates on the weekend. When he finished his Hospitality Management study in Arnhem, love is what made him move to the capital city. Paul worked his way up the ranks and is now delivering the highest standards of service in our Two-Michelin Star restaurant, Librije's Zusje. As part of this team, Pauls knows very well that preparation is key. He makes sure that all of the menus remain up to date and the restaurant is perfectly set before the arrival of our first guests. Throughout the course of your meal, it is Paul and the team that will make your dining experience into an unforgettable one.
Paul enjoys showcasing his service skills at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, however at home he spends his time in the kitchen. When he is not working or cooking Paul loves fixing up his Old-timer Volkswagen. He can't wait until summer holiday, so he can travel all over Europe with his beloved Volkswagen discovering new cuisines along the road.

It's an early Friday morning for me today, so I thought I'd do a little #fridayintroductions. I'm Karen 🙋🏻, the #handsandhustle behind Mason Alley Calligraphy. There isn't anything I love more than being a wife and mother to 2 (almost 3!) little girls--my soon-to-be middle daughter shown with me here!! Not too far behind my family is my LOVE for lettering and typography, which is a passion I've been developing since I was a kid, doodling all over my notebooks and killing it making posters as a cheerleader. I did some art and graphic design in college, which gave me skills I use everyday. I stay up late at night to work on projects and love the energy I get from being creative. With just 3 weeks (or less!) to having another baby for me 🤰🏻, I'm getting ready to take a little time off to soak in all the joys of having a little newborn in the house again. I'm booking a few fall and winter weddings and look forward to dropping a few new projects in the months to come. Thanks to each of you for being along with me on my creative journey! Engineering print with wood rail frame shown here available by special order (send me a DM). 📷: @annmarieloves, as part of a maternity shoot I did for @summerbellessa, @kohls and @babble.
