The Quireboys – A Bit Of What You Fancy
Despite first appearing during in the glam metal scene of the late 80’s and having the hair and eyeliner to match, The Quireboys were much more of a classic rock band in the style of The Faces. The things that really set them apart were the boogie-style keyboards throughout, insanely catchy choruses, gospel-style backing vocals in places, and the wonderful voice of lead singer Spike, who reminded everybody of Rod Stewart at his 70’s peak. You could honestly give this guy anything to sing and I would listen to it, especially if I could watch him while he did!
There’s a nice range of dynamics to this record, from the big ballads ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’ and ‘Whipping Boy’ to foot-tappers ‘Sex Party’ and ‘Hey You’. On the whole though, it’s a record to get you dancing, singing along and generally having a great time. There really isn’t a weak track, and their live show is always high-energy and insane amounts of fun.
This is one that will grab you instantly, and then keep you grabbed!
