Chatting about oils with a friend today and I mentioned Thieves oil. It got me thinking about just how interesting the backstory of this oil is, so I thought I’d share. Thieves oil got its name during the Plague in the 1400s when four thieves were robbing the homes of the dead without catching the highly infectious illness themselves. The thieves used masks soaked in a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary. They would inhale the blend of herbs and spices to avoid falling ill. Once caught, the judge demanded that the thieves expose how they were able to be around those affected without catching the illness in exchange for leniency. That’s how the oil blend “Thieves” was born. Pretty cool, huh?
