Islay adası damıtımevlerinden Bruichladdich'in bu ekspresyonu turbasız arpalar kullanılarak üretiliyor ve çiçeksi burnuyla, tropik meyve notalarıyla Islay viskilerinin isli olmak zorunda olmadığının en güzel kanıtlarından biri. A photo of the @bruichladdich Micro Provenance series along with a fuller bottle 😊 . Thanks to @stephensweeneyphotography

Bruichladdich Micro-Provenance Series
Cask Evolution.
This is part of a series coming from interesting casks and only available online from the distillery. Bruichladdich offers a number of 20 cl bottles in sets of 3 and does a live broadcast from the distillery to “explore” with the head distiller. .
.
This bottle which is 1 of 313, and never to be repeated, has been matured full term in European Oak previously containing Sauternes ( 9 years)
Distilled using Optic barley and bottled at 75.2% vol
The only other insights on the bottle are the cask number(1527), the warehouse number and rack number. .
.
Hopefully the good people @bruichladdich will see this post and tell us what else could be found in this great dram, since this is the very last chance I have to taste it, along with one of my sons and the whisky thief who drank the rest 😊 ( see photo 3) .
.
NOSE: Very sweet, with orange, vanilla, pears and some oaky notes. .
.
PALATE: Fantastically sweet and with a creamy texture. A little bit of smoke and citrus returns with oranges and chocolate. At this stage I barely have enough left to describe the finish😳, but it really is delicious.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FINISH: Initially maintains some sweetness and fruit and then takes some time to yield that last dry and slightly spicy and nutty notes. .
.
In summary, I really am sorry that this is the end of a really interesting bottle, with the consolation that whatever @bruichladdich learned from this beautiful whisky , they will surely share again in another expression.

Arran 14 year old “ Standing Stones on Machrie Moor”. Unpeated and bottled at 46%.
This is a bottle from about 2012 and is a marriage of first fill sherry and bourbon casks. .
.
COLOUR: Golden, pale straw.
.
.
NOSE: Fruity, with notes of sweet raisins and orange. A little oily or waxy and then, with a little water, pineapple and apple.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - PALATE: a little spicy with honey, orange, and red berries all backed up by a clean vanilla note. .
.
FINISH: As the honeyed sweetness subsides, some of the fruit remains and a dry spicy note persists for a pleasant conclusion.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was great to reacquaint myself with Arran and in summary this bottling is a nicely balanced and fruity dram, with a surprising level of sophistication.

Bruichladdich Octomore Masterclass 08.2 European Oak. .
.
Bottled at 58.4% ABV. 8 years old and 167ppm phenols. .
.
This is the second edition of the 08 Masterclass series and is, as expected, very different to 08.1(American Oak) which I reviewed a few days ago.
The 08.2 is a travel retail exclusive available at airports.
.
.
Colour : Reddish orange and this should give a good clue to which contents the casks originally held. The official notes from the team at Bruichladdich suggest raspberries, blackcurrant and strawberry in the aroma and taste, and keep us guessing about the exact provenance of the wine that may give these notes.
All part of the fun is just enjoying as much of the sensory experience as we can individually
extract, and is often rewarded by going back to the dram over time.
So... here goes 😊
.
.
NOSE: Peat smoke, liquorice, sweet & buttery Scottish “tablet”, boiled sweets. With only a little added water, I found it opened up a lot to reveal what seemed to be like a honeyed/orangey Moscatel or Sauternes wine...
.
.
PALATE: Beautifully sweet and fruity initially and despite all the peat and phenols you might expect, there is only some soft smoke. Additionally there is the classic lemon note and what I could only describe as Danish pastry. The flavour develops a drier, spicier and smokier edge later.
.
.
FINISH: Long finish and smoky, smoky, smoky! Almonds and cherries .
.
IN SUMMARY ..... Magnificent! To my taste and preference, this European Oak version is even better than 08.1, adding more layers and complexity compared to that super-balanced version. This is yet another big dram from Bruichladdich which defies logic with it’s super high phenol ppm. It is beautifully well balanced and rounded and just to prove that not all peat is the same.

The Oldest Whisky I tasted in 2017
@gordonandmacphail bottling of Glen Grant distilled in 1950!

Thanks to the @gordonandmacphail and @benromach team at the Telegraph Whisky event in London in Dec 2017.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Was preparing for a whisky tasting which included some @gordonandmacphail and @benromach drams and was lucky enough to savour this piece of whisky history. A real treat and the icing on the cake after a fascinating insight from the professionals at the event

@dlaingwhisky (Douglas Laing Provenance) Mortlach 8 yr old chosen by @thegoodspiritsco - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Always worth a visit to @thegoodspiritsco when I am back home for a visit to Scotland/ Glasgow .
Just returning to one of the bottles I chose during a recent trip.
Bottled at 58.7% ABV from a refilled hogshead
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
NOSE: at 58.7%, the nose didn’t give up it’s secrets( to me 😊) until I added some water. I then discovered pineapple, pears and creamy vanilla. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PALATE: Sweet, prickly, caramel, fudge, peaches
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FINISH: initially sweet, then dry & nutty, slightly salty, with the fruit still lingering with some honey. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mortlach seems to me to be a big powerful spirit which is worth taking time to get to know. This young Mortlach was worth taking time over and opened up over time. Nice choice @thegoodspiritsco and I would love to taste an older sherry Cask Mortlach if you choose one for the shop

The Organic 2009 Bruichladdich . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Made from 100% Organic barley which no doubt adds something to the freshness of this limited bottling. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Unpeated Single Malt bottled at 8 years old, at 50% ABV and matured in ex-bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey American oak. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Nose : Quite sweet(especially with a drop of water), creamy citrus notes, vanilla. After a second investigation, a buttery note was evident . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Palate: great smooth mouthfeel with a creamy barley sugar and some soft nutty and spicy notes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Finish: initially beautifully sweet and fruity and then citrus and dry - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Overall, and after the big peaty Octomore’s and Laphroaig Cairdeas’ on New Year’s Eve, this is a wonderful contrast and makes for a relaxing dram after all of the festive celebration ! Here’s to Organic Single Malt! Slainte 👍

🥃BRUICHLADDICH🥃
.
.
This @bruichladdich 12yo - second edition is hand-crafted by former master distiller - the legend himself - Jim McEwan! The passion and madness of this man brought to the distillery the freedom of expression! If this 12yo is aged in a classic ex-bourbon casks, I've got some whisky finished in Brunello (italian) and Mourvedre (french) whisky that are perfect examples of this freedom. .
.
Lightly and even unpeated malts are often used in Bruichladdich. This one is unpeated and tastes vanilla and gently oaked. I feel some exotic fruity notes too. .
.
This freedom is pushed to the edge with the last news we've got from this Islay distillery: the last batch distilled this year isn't malted barley but RYE !!! This is very uncommon in Scotland.

2nd #MiniatureMonday is #TheLaddie. This is the #Bruichladdich staple or signature expression.
It's made from Scottish barley, 100%.
This is an #unpeated #Islay but it still has a waft of the sea. It is by no means a Speyside or Highland. It's just no Laph or Laga.
The nose is a honey'd cereal, citrus and brown sugar notes.
The palate is a little salty with red apple, brown sugar and cinnamon. There is a touch of green fruits in there too. Nashi pear maybe.
The finish is quite short and rather uncomplicated. Honey and malt.
