🎵"The Black Album" - Recording Process:
📌The album is essentially a compilation of individual tracks; it was not recorded as a thematic album. The track, Superfunkycalifragisexy, was the first to be recorded in September 1986.
🎵Vanity 6 - Work With Prince (background):
📌In 1981, Prince, himself a rising musical star, suggested that his three female friends—his girlfriend Susan Moonsie, Boston native Brenda Bennett, and Jamie Shoop form a girl group that would be called "The Hookers". Prince's vision was that the three women would perform in lingerie and sing sensual songs with lyrics about sex and fantasy.
🎵Sheila E. - Work With Prince (background):
📌Sheila met Prince at an Al Jarreau concert in 1978. After the show, he met her and told her that he and his bassist André Cymone "were just fighting about which one of us would be the first to be your husband". He also prophetically vowed that one day she would join his band.
📌The b-side of the single, When 2 R In Love, was taken from Prince's tenth album Lovesexy.
A maxi-single, using the title The Scandalous Sex Suite was released shortly after the single, containing a three-part 19-minute suite of the song Scandalous (with the three parts named The Crime, The Passion and The Rapture), as well as a non-album track, Sex.
The single did not enter the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, but reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles Chart
🎵The Hits 1 - Content:
📌The album also contained two songs which were previously-unreleased by Prince: Nothing Compares 2 U (which had initially been released by The Family, but was made famous worldwide by Irish singer Sinead O'Connor) and Pink Cashmere. Adore, which had not been released as a single, was included in a previously-unavailable edited form.
