THE HEN WHO DREAMED SHE COULD FLY
Known as the “Korean Charlotte’s Web”, The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly is a beautiful and unexpectedly charming book, about the life of Sprout the laying hen, and her desperate dream to hatch an egg of her own.
This one really took me by surprise. On more than one occasion I had to swallow a lump in my throat, and steady my voice, to continue reading aloud.
For such a simple little farmyard story, it has layers upon layers of depth and meaning. Love, dreams, hope, struggle, sacrifice and sadness, it has it all.
This is a book for EVERYONE.
My only disclaimer would be to those who have suffered greatly with the longing to be a mother, you may find the first couple of chapters particularly difficult.
Even the Author’s story is moving - as a girl growing up in South Korea, she couldn’t afford to attend school for several years, but a kindly teacher gave her a key to the school, so she could sneak in and read books.
