🇩🇪 Berlin Stories 🗯
Nicolas John is French, he’s the CEO of the German Branch of Webedia, a French company specialized in online media, gathering some big ones like allociné, jeuxvidéos.com or 750g.com. 800 employees worldwide, 200 in Germany. Nicolas’ focus is on growing the traffic and monetizing it.
🍿🍿🍿 I must say, I was happy to finally talk with someone who could share with me his cultural discoveries after two years in Berlin.
🍷🍻🍷 "I sell to high level corporates. When you have an appointment, don’t be late - the usual 15 min are not tolerated here. With your pitch, be straightforward. They love action plans. No place for digression."
🙊🙊🙊 "Administration is way more efficient here. You don’t feel controlled but if you cheat and get caught, joke over. The metro might be always open, if the “Kontroller” finds you, you pay immediately and if you watch a movie on an illegal streaming platform, you receive a letter right away."
🙋🏼♂️🙅🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️ "Most of my team members are German. They are used to give feedback, it’s easy for them to share their thoughts in a business context. It’s refreshing for me, feeling challenged. But in the meantime, criticism can often be a pessimistic view of the reality. "
🗯🗯🗯 "Sometimes you can be surprised by the poor level of design or branding - they don’t care, as long as it is efficient. See this website: KaufDA, it’s a platform gathering all the supermarket coupons. You would cry, it looks like paper ads, but online. Well, it's 50K unique visitors per day."
