Regrann from @richard.beland - With tomorrow being Robert Smith’s birthday and all, I thought I’d start the acknowledgement a day early.
I captured this image of Robert Smith and Simon Gallup on The Wish Tour at the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI on July 18, 1992. The band played the night after at this venue as well; both of which I photographed. They recorded these two concerts and in 1993 released a full length concert video and album entitled, Show.
With the Cure’s 40th anniversary on the immediate horizon, here are some Cure/Robert Smith updates.
Robert Smith is curating the upcoming installment of the Meltdown festival this summer, and he has “booked studio time for the band” to record some long-awaited new music.
As reported by the NME, Smith’s curated Meltdown for the 25th anniversary of the fest will feature performances from Death Cab For Cutie, Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad and The Psychedelic Furs, in addition to previously announced artists such as Deftones, the Libertines, Manic Street Preachers, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails and Placebo. Smith has also announced that
The Cure will headline the final day of Meltdown Festival on June 24th. Rather than play a traditional set, however, the show will feature “interpretations of Cure songs” with “different configurations of people on stage,” including Smith solo.
Back in late 2017, the Cure announced a show to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary on Saturday, July 7th at Hyde Park in London. They are billing the concert as their only European show of 2018. Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, Slowdive and the Twilight Sad will perform in addition to others that will be announced later on.
