It is not easy to strive towards success and, like any journey, it is easier with a companion who can help you to pace yourself, remind you of your vision and motivations, as well as spur you on when you begin to tire. Yet, many of us try to take new journies in secret. Often this is due to feeling shy or self-conscious. We don't want to look silly trying. If we are going to fail, we would rather do so in private.
But, I want you to know about the incredible power of accountability. From the moment you utter the words: "I am going to...." or "In one year, I will be a..." you had better be on form, because you are being watched, observed....yes, judged. If you do not pull this off, there had better be a good reason, which is exactly what will spur you on. You don't need anything more than a feeble excuse to justify quitting to yourself, but you need a very good reason to justify quitting to your success companion.
But, accountability is not just about someone keeping an eye on us. Being accountable to others is also related to our responsibilities to them. Our success will remodel, reshape, revolutionise their lives. For parents or partners alike, we will be better able to provide financial support, love, role-modelling, inspiration, positivity, devoted time and so much more....if we can just get our act together.
We are accountable to those whom we elect to the position of support, encouragement and challenge, just as we are accountable to those for whom and to whom we are responsible.
