It’s easy to pack macro- and micronutrients into smoothies and bowls. Depending on what kind of protein powder you use, the bowl may be sweet enough to your liking. If it is not sweet enough you can sweeten it with stevia, pure maple syrup, or real honey. I ended up adding one-half ounce of pure maple syrup in this bowl because the protein powder I used today was a vegan one without much sweetness. A half ounce of pure maple syrup added about 50 calories to this already high calorie breakfast. I think next time I will just use a sweeter protein powder to save some calories. Eating high calorie meals is great as long as they are nutrient rich; however, your daily eating has to have checks and balances. I have a daily calorie goal that I try not to exceed. This means if I choose to add 50 calories of maple syrup to my breakfast, I’ll have to cut out 50 calories somewhere else. Some days, I may rather have 50 calories of avocado with dinner and wish I hadn’t of had that maple syrup.
Here is an oatmeal bowl containing: 25 g quick oats, 45 g vegan protein powder, 1 tsp cacao powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp flaxseed, 1 tsp açaí powder, 1 TBS coconut chips, 1 TBS chia seeds, 0.5 oz Sunbutter (or you can use nut butter), 1 oz banana, 1 oz blueberries, 0.8 oz strawberries.

I did a little experiment to see if lemon juice or honey does a better job at preventing apples from turning brown. In my little experiment, honey (far right) was superior to lemon juice! Add about 1TBS honey to about a cup of water and dunk apple slices in the honey water for 30 seconds or so prior to storing.

One way to reduce your meat intake is to purchase “fake meat” from the grocery store. I believe the majority of your foods should be as unprocessed as realistically possible. That being said, it’s not reasonable for most people to eat 100% unprocessed foods. Pre-packaged foods offer so much convenience and can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. When you eat processed foods, however, it is especially important to limit your portions. These #SmartSausages from @lightlifefoods are really tasty. A salad is a great lunch, especially when you’re trying to increase #productivity because it is a light and nutritious meal. I recently went to a conference for #entrepreneurs where a doctor spoke about the TIME that you eat your carbs, with regards to increasing how productive you are in the day. He suggests eating most of your carbs for dinner because this is when you’re winding down for the day and the large carb load will put you into rest and digest mode (i.e. sleepy-because your body’s energy is going toward digesting your large meal). Eating your largest meal last also gets you out of the productivity mode by increasing serotonin (which makes you more relaxed). This makes so much sense to me! Having a nutritious shake for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and then a large meal for dinner is the optimal order to help increase your productivity during the day.

Fruit is a delicious, low calorie snack. I think we forget sometimes to just get back to basics and eat fruit (and vegetables) plain. They offer so many great benefits, including but not limited to: vitamin c, antioxidants, and fiber. Fruits are very refreshing to eat as they help to hydrate your body, and are also great for your skin. Some people are afraid of fruit because of the sugar content. Do not be afraid! What you need to stay away is “added sugar.” Sugar that occurs naturally in your whole foods is perfectly acceptable, especially since they are offering so many other benefits. Just check your serving sizes... (i.e. I don’t advise eating 15 oranges in one day, LOL). Even healthy foods need to be portion controlled!

I am currently eating at a caloric surplus for muscle building, but you could portion the ingredients to fit your individual needs/goals. For example, if you are on a weight loss plan, you could cut out the peanut butter to cut fat and calories.
