So I like to make people things for birthday and Christmas presents. But lately, especially when needing to get a present for @summerstarrphotos I've resorted to buying something. It's partly because I've been working and traveling so much I don't have time to get in the workshop but also because I don't feel I have the brain space or inspiration to make something.
So for Summer's birthday yesterday, armed with our friend Lily's new cookbook, Kale & Caramel, I decided to get a bit ambitious and cook her a birthday dinner.
Let it be known...hanging out with amazing chefs and having family that can cook well doesn't mean I can. I can make a mean fried egg and cook pot rice, every time.
One thing spending time with chefs has taught me though, especially watching @mikelofaro do his thing during our show was how to break down the meal in your mind, create a prep list, and plan it out in advance.
So here it is, Summer's birthday dinner, courtesy of the amazing recipes from the @kaleandcaramel cookbook! (Go buy her book, the recipes are just as amazing as her writing that accompanies them.) Drink: Sparkling cucumber basil lemonade
Salad: Blood Orange & fennel Salad w/ olives
Entree: Capellini Pomodoro w/ homeade ricotta
Dessert: Chocolate chia mousse w/ Cardamom rose whip
