“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have”. -1 Peter 3:15
The world is increasingly becoming a hostile environment for the Christian. Christian values are being attacked and labelled as archaic and oppressive. And this admittedly takes a toll on the Christian who constantly seek to defend his faith to people who aren’t always willing to listen.
However, this should come as no surprise. Scripture warns us that the Christian life is not an easy chilling life. The Lord Jesus had these sobering words to say: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you”(John 15:18-19). The apostle Paul also reminds us that “everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Timothy 3:12). So there you have it; the road to heaven is not an easy one. But take heart, dear Christian, for our Saviour has already gone before us to intercede for us daily. So arm yourself with good doctrine by studying God’s Word and make use of the many resources that are out there to fortify your stance against the arguments that you face. And remember to do all of this in kindness and love, because your aim should not be to win the argument, but to win a soul to Christ. - Nthabiseng Patsa
