Women that look like me/my mom/my grandma/my tías/my cousins/my friends are being pulled over because of our skin tone and they’re being separated from their children that look like mine just a few hours from you.
Let that sink in. Next time you tell me how beautiful my child is or tell me that I’m a super mom, remember this is off the back of immigrant work ethic.
I’ve been silent for too long and as a business owner I try not to sway one way or the other but when I hold my children tight and hear that families are being held in converted Walmarts, that they should be “so lucky” not to be in Texas Summer Heat, I’m reminded that my Catholic faith and my faith in humanity along with the steadfast fire of an immigrant backbone is what keeps me hungry and wanting more.
This is America. Let that sink in. Let that photo hit you before you say my kids are cute and you love my daughter’s hair. 📷: @yvetteactually
