[Skipping ahead/detour] I have yet to visit Bears Ears itself, but I’ve recently visited Valley of the Gods (VOTG), which is part of Bears Ears National Monument, one of which will be greatly reduced under the current administration (which has been known to forgo moral decency, environmental protection, basic facts, science—among other things). The administration shrank Bears Ears National Monument by 85 percent, and cut another monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante, to about half its current size. .
BTS: I was on my way back from exploring New Mexico, decided to go for one last sunrise shoot at VOTG. I arrived pre-sunrise, driving in the dark, when out of nowhere Google Maps instructed me to turn into this small sketchy off-road road, which I blindly followed. Long story short, my car got stuck in really fine sand. I’ve tried everything from digging all the sand out, using rubber mats and all, still no progress. Now, my car is a front wheel drive sedan mind you—apparently my sense of adventure got the best of me sometimes 😅. On the other hand, I couldn’t get my car stuck in a prettier surroundings! The red rocks and I were basking in the golden sunrise, turning them even redder (and me, still hopeless)! After hiking 1 mile out, I found Hannah who was super willing to let me interrupt her morning sunrise yoga session to help me with her huge truck. I owe her big time!! 😅🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
