Little reintroduction: Hey 🖑 I'm Ally. I was diagnosed with binge eating disorder (BED) in 2015 and started working to conquer it last year at 269 pounds. In the process of learning how to control my binges and finding my triggers, I also started searching for a form of movement that I enjoyed. I quickly fell in love with weight lifting and now we're here. I lift 3 days a week, count calories and macros, and still have body dysmorphia and anxieties about food sometimes. It’s been so hard lately to get myself in the gym. Which is strange because it brings me such joy when I do go. But that’s the confusing and frustrating part about living with anxiety/any mental health struggle. Sometimes we have absolutely NO idea why things that used to be easy and fun are suddenly huge mountains to climb. But those Pinterest quotes are right when they say that view from the top is so incredibly worth it. It might be a battle for a few hours, a day, or even a week. But you’ll get through it. I promise you that. Put your dad hat on, grind it out, and give thanks to those who inspire you. 💕🦄

WHY do you workout?!

This answer is different for everyone and can take many different forms. Today at the gym I was reminded of some of my why’s (probably because I finally got to go back to my roots a crush a Friday leg day...my absolute fave 🏋🏽‍♀️)

My biggest why has always been the MENTAL CLARITY it brings me. This will forever be more important than any physical component working out brings.

Today in the middle of my workout I randomly realized how happy I was and how much my mood had improved since I had gotten to the gym. I love challenging my body. I love challenging my mind. And I LOVE the relief it brings me.

When I was younger I battled with pretty bad anxiety and one of the things that helped me release the pent up anger and anxiousness I was experiencing was working out. It allowed me to release my emotions in a positive way and avoid “episodes.”

While I no longer struggle with anxiety like I used to, I still get stressed. I still get frustrated. I still get overwhelmed. I’m human. Consistently working out allows me to release all of that in a healthy way. At the end of the day, that’s what keeps me going. That’s my why.

HAPPY FRIDAY! Here is a leg workout for you!
I went low weight higher rep for most of my movements today because this was my third leg day of the week 😬 but it was soooooooo goood. I’ll list the exercises for each video below. I did 3 sets of each! Play with reps/weight a little bit in your workout, it’s good to keep those muscles guessing sometimes.
1️⃣ low squats
2️⃣ split squats
3️⃣ single leg RDL
4️⃣ deadlift
5️⃣ regular leg press
6️⃣ wider stance, toes slightly out leg press
7️⃣ I call these push downs LOL
8️⃣ leg extensions
9️⃣ lying HAMMMM curls
🔟 cable goblet squat
