What builds a well developed back?
Any rowing movement or lat pull movement will aid in developing overall thickness and detail to your back from upper traps, rear delts, lats to rhomoids, but one of my favourite compound exercises is the deadlift to bring thickness to the erractus spinae (lower back). Many talk trash about deads but if you know how to execute the lift efficently and not be a baby about them, then it's a great tool to incorporate.
The video shown I'm using a faster eccentric to reduce mechanical stress, making sure at the top range I'm thrusting those hips forwards (contracting the glutes HARD) and retracting the scapular for full contraction/activation

But truthfully all these exercise aid in increasing thickness to your back but nothing will be applied if you don't work hard enough..

What do we find more sustainable and enjoyable
This is a question I asked the other day as I wanted to get some feedback from a mental and phycial perspective. what do people find easier and more enjoyable?

Offseason/bulking
Being able to be more relaxed with your food intake, do you find it hard coming away from a restricted diet, is it nice being able to have more social time and freedom to go out of the weekend.
Do you struggle with body confidents when carrying a extra bit of fluff?

Being tuned in to a religious program having your day planned out from morning to night, small food portion frequently and not having to crame thousands of calories down, being more anti-sociable and imprisoned to your home or the gym most of the time. Do you enjoy looking your best and feeling more confident within yourself, plus the hard days of having to fight temptations.

3 more weeks then prep begins for me, this year is going to be a mentally and physically challenging year but I can not wait to begin because it's the challenges that are set on me that makes me enjoy this process and it truly identifies what we are cable of doing and presenting out true inner strengths.

Current condition status
215lbs 20lbs down!!
Mini cut has had to pause for the fact that too much stress, cortisol and inflammation was building up with daily life, work plus me always being competitive, trying to push myself as hard as possible as if I were in a prep phase! Which is great but I had to remind myself that I'm not in contest prep mood as of yet and need to relax more before diving back into the mix of things.

I'm still dieting but not as aggressive, losing around 0.5/1lb a week

Also I wanted to touch bases on something @ajmorris_ highlighted which I strongly agree with, and that being that we need to take pride in our body and what lays underneath all the baggy hoodies and trousers during the off-season. It can become a mental battle to lose that condition and gain a little bit of fat and fluid but it's a process we must fulfil to make the improvements needed.
Maintaining that shredded stage look all year round is not sustainable or healthy. as well we need to find that balance of normality, being able to go out of the evenings/weekends with our family, loved ones or friends. Being secluded to your diet and remaining lean 365 days a year will eventually lead to negative effects on your mental and physical state.

Take pride in yourself, enjoy the off-season (food) but make sure the work also goes in to make them improvements.

CHEST ACTIVATION!!

more often then none, alot of us suffer with really activating the pectoral major & minor which can lead to alot of stress loaded onto our anterior delts or even injuries/tears to the pecs because we are not full engaging the muscle group effiecently.

This exercise is a very simple but effective semi-isometric exercise I love to use to get a beautiful contraction and maximise activation in my chest before performing my major compound exercises.
Starting with your arms out by your side keeping the elbows/arm fully extended and then slowly bringing in towards your chest while internally rotating your hands due to the fibre make up in the pecs this applies a greater contraction. Now remember this is a activation exercise so the goal is not to fatigue the chest but to drive blood, and generate a nice mind to muscle contraction before you begin your chest session.

Give this exercise a go prior to your session or you could even chuck it inbetween your warm up sets start with 3 to 4 sets 10/12 reps

Stretching
Something that in my opinion seems to be seriously overrated is stretch stretch stretch, The biggest injury prevention!!
Now don't get me wrong, stretching both dynamically and statically has its place. But too many people are either over excessively stretching or stretching with no real consideration on "WHY" are they stretching.

However activation work is a great tool we can use to help push blood into a given muscle that we are planning on working, it allows our Brain to send singles to that muscle part to say ok switch on we are about to apply a load and stress, "BE PREPARED"
It also allows us to get a more effective mind to muscle connection.
The first exercise can be performed in to variation first being shown in the video with the band just below the knee sitting on your tibialis anterior, the other being just above the knee sitting on the end of our erractus femoris.
Externally rotating, which helps activate our glutes, adductors Magnus and adductors longnus, the second activation is an lateral adductation drill to get those glutes firing with toes pointing forward to really get more glute focus.

The purpose behind it is, personally suffering with adductor tightness which has lead to minor glute tightness as well, these drills help me warm up effiecently preventing further injuries/tightness and improving my range of movement when performing squats and other exercises.
I'm not trying to demonising stretching but understand there is a time and place and a purpose for it not just to simply do it because you heard it is great and you've seen the person next to you doing it.
Plus 5 minutes isn't stretching. to really get a muscle loose and warmed up it requires a good 20 odd minutes.
