This week’s #mobilitymonday tip from @toddsportsmed focuses on a mobility movement called scapular clocks. These are designed to promote elevation and depression of the scapulae with the glenohumeral joint (shoulder) in different positions. You will start by having your hand weight bearing on a wall and your hand pointed straight up (12:00). You will perform 10 repetitions of scapular elevation and depression. You will then repeat this rep scheme as you move your hand from 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and back over to 9:00. This will isolate the scapular stabilizers that help act on the shoulder blade such as the upper, middle and lower trapezius muscles, levator scapulae, rhomboids, latissimus and serratus anterior.

Taylor is an engineer and serves in the Army National Guard. Floor press going up = bench press going up

One thing I think a lot of people neglect in their training is learning how to strain. I am not saying grind yourself to death everyday, but it is important to put your self in max effort situations. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of Westside, there is a lot to be learned from them, and the importance of being able to strain is a big one. And no, you aren’t going to fry your CNS doing a couple max Effort days a week.

Gotta be honest, have been kind of feeling a craving to get back to this level of #shredz 💪🏼 but this is always my struggle, I plan to go through a bulk, end up coming across an old pic where I’m diced up, and immediately start a cut to get back there. Im really don’t like walking around without popping abs, but I’m going to try to resist the temptation and stay the course to pack on some size. I have started cleaning the diet up a bit though. Going to get rid of some of the excess I’ve put on while maintaining a “clean bulk” diet. Just gotta stay the course and trust in the process. It’ll pay off in the long run

Saturday morning training sessions are some of my favorites. Quick arm (bis and tris) workout this morning. Gotta get Piper to gymnastics, coach maddys softball practice, and then family is coming up to celebrate my birthday a day early. One of the most exciting parts is that I’m taking my younger brother (he’s 8) on his first hunt. It may be short lived depending on how long he can deal with sitting quietly in a freestand, but I’m looking forward to it

MCL Sprains 🚑
When we think about the anatomy of the MCL, we know that inferior to the area that the MCL spans, there is a landmark called the pes anserine. This landmark is an attachment site for 3 large muscles, the sartorius, gracilis and semitendinosus. The sartorius and gracilis are hip adductors, which help bring the leg towards the body, and they help with hip flexion. The semitendinosus, which is one of the three hamstring tendons, assists in hip extension and knee flexion. So we want to focus on adding in these movements to strengthen the tissue around the MCL.

Here’s any early movement in addition to several others that I like to incorporate for early MCL rehab.
Glute bridge with an adductor focused squeeze throughout. Will show more this week with an article to come!

Floor Press Tip: As with the bench press, controlling the bar and building tension is crucial. Absorb the weight with your lats, control the bar down until your triceps reach the floor, but maintain tension, don’t release and lose your bar path 🛑 . This will cause you to lose a significant amount of power when you try to press the weight up.
