Most of you are probably thinking, that doesn’t make any sense but for others it makes perfect sense! Anyone who thinks that weight loss is more physical than it is mental, you might want to go back and read my past series. Weight loss has always been and will always be more mental than physical, if not the quotes, “Mind over Body” and “The Body Achieves What The Mind Believes” would be void! Now you’re probably thinking, well what does all that have to do with the title of this post? Good question because I’m about to tell you, lets say you have been going hard in the gym for two weeks straight and your eating has been 100% clean but when you step on the scale, you are either heavier or haven’t lost any weight at all. Mentally this will either piss you off, make you depressed, or both and what happen when your mind is on an emotional roller-coaster, most people turn to food for comfort. Hmmmm, can you see where I’m going with this? Most people associate that number on the scale with one major factor – food. Some factor exercise in too after all, if you ate less or differently and exercised more or differently, that number would start to move. Wouldn’t it? Sounds simple, doesn’t it? In theory, yes but not so fast because if it were that simple, obesity would not be an issue in America. There are other health factors at play here that can and will determine whether the scale moves or not such as sleep (7-8 hours is recommend), recovery from activity (the less time it takes you to recover from any physical activity, the better shape you’re in), psychological stress (being stressed out will cause you to gain weight no matter what you do or how good of shape you’re in) and health history (different medications can make you gain weight or prevent you from losing it). All of these things play a major role in your body composition but hey no one looks at the scale and thinks, “Darn it, I need to get more sleep.” Lol! My point is before you look at the scale as a gage of your success or failure in your weight loss journey, consider some other things that might be hindering the process, fix them and see what happens after that. Trust me you won’t regret it…..
