Welcome back to Mindset Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Today we’re going to talk about acting confident!
Acting confident can help trick your mind into feeling confident. And if your mind thinks you feel confident… before long you *will* be confident! One way to do this is to do a power pose. This idea of power posing was made popular by Amy Cuddy in her Ted Talk. Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks-_Mh1QhMc
Kara Goucher (famous and incredible US runner) power poses at the start line of her races. In her recently-released book “Strong,” she says: “when I look at photos of myself on the starting line, I am always standing tall and looking straight ahead. While others move around, shaking their legs and arms, I choose to stand still.” (I HIGHLY recommend “Strong!” You can find it at your local bookseller or online.) Take a minute to practice this. (Remember, with all the mindset readjustment exercises, we need to practice them before we need them!) Read these directions, then put your phone down and DO IT!
Stand tall. Place your feet shoulder width apart. Place your hands on your hips, shoulders back, chest out, and breathe deep. Breathe all the way into your stomach, then slowly breathe out, emptying your lungs as much as is comfortable. Look straight ahead. Smile. Repeat the words you came up with in last week’s Mindset Monday to yourself (or out loud, if you’re feeling confident). You could even say them as affirmations, like “I am strong, I am awesome, I am capable.” Powerfully pose for about two minutes.
Try this at your next race, or in your office next time you need a big boost of confidence.
And don’t forget to join us next Monday!

Hello, Team Ardor followers! This is Ardor Adventures ambassador Shelby. Welcome to Mindset Monday! Over the next few weeks, I’ll lead the Team Ardor instagram page through some exercises focused on your brain and getting you into the right mindset for your next tough workout or big race. I first encountered this idea of needing to have the right mindset about 7 years ago, and have since used it to help me pass the bar exam, finish a marathon, and successfully compete in dog agility.
As runners, we all exercise our muscles and do things aimed at priming our muscles to perform their best, but when was the last time you thought about priming your brain to perform its best? Having the right mindset can mean the difference between success and falling just shy of your goal. As Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right.” Practicing this skill will help you develop mental toughness - the grit you need to finish a hard race or workout, when you’d rather just cut off early and grab a pint.
Like with anything, we have to practice the skill of being in the right mindset before we need it!
Let’s start off easy. Take a minute to think about your last big success. Whether it was achieving your goal time at a race, or something you did well at work, how did success make you feel? What words come to mind to describe how you felt in that moment?
Three words that come to me are awesome, strong, and capable. Write these words down somewhere, like your running journal. Seeing them in writing will help your brain remember them, and summon them in times of need. Repeat these words (or just one of them) to yourself when you feel you need a little extra boost of confidence.
See you next week!

In small group, pairs and sometimes one on one. We work things differently here at Ardor Elite. We start you where you are and then develop you towards the goals, you have for you. It is a partnership that is based on helping you achieve the things you want and need...somewhere along the way we become family.

We continue to send off our seniors, and even though she did not go far, I miss her terribly. Lise is a quiet and determined young lady with a heart filled with Ardor...a mix of fire and passion for life. She worked so incredibly hard and I enjoyed working with her. She will be missed as she heads to UNM. The one thing that I know to expect from Lise is Success, she will never settle for less than what she deserves. I am proud of her and will be looking for her next series of accomplishments! Good Luck my Beastie!

Another sports trainer asked one of our athletes why would you train at Ardor Elite? She simply stated "I want to throw Javelin in college, and they help and train athletes to play their sport in college." That is what we do, and with 92% success rate of our athletes playing their sport in college, I can say we are the very best in the southwest.
