Can I be real with you? Great, I was gonna be anyway. ;)
This is the picture of my very first classroom. I look at it now and sort of cringe, but this was my reality. I was thrown into my teaching career and I face planted. I took over a classroom mid-year. I was completely ill equipped and unprepared to not only teach a grade I had never taught, but also try to undo the damage that had been done from lack of effective classroom management paired with a group of challenging kiddos. .
I would like to say I completely turned that classroom around, but I didn't. Every day was a struggle and there were many times I felt like giving up, but I couldn't. The kids needed someone to believe in them. They needed someone to expect more of them. So we pressed on. I learned more about grit, resilience, and perseverance more that year than ever before.
I tell you this story to offer encouragement. To the teachers who may be disappointed in how your school year is taking shape: don't lose heart. There is lesson in the struggle, if you choose to find it. Choose joy, choose faith, choose hope. #rantcomplete #steppingoffthesoapbox
