In preparation for the two marathons I am running this fall, I have decided to combine two of my favorite physical pursuits--drinking beer and running--to raise money for @teamfoxmjff, the grassroots fundraising arm of the @michaeljfoxorg. I will be doing this in the form of a BEER MILE--a race of four laps around a 400m track, accompanied by the drinking of four beers, in a true test of the fitness of one's body, spirit, and chugging ability.
Now, I can't do this alone, so I'm making this a challenge to my network to show your support. My goal is to raise $5,000 by November 4, the date of the @nycmarathon. If, with the help of all of you, I succeed in this goal, I will run said beer mile. That's right, no $5k, no beer mile. If you want to see me suffer, then show your support by donating, sharing this post with your networks, and, if you dare, joining me for the beer mile (I'm serious, if you want to join, LMK)! With a donation of $150, you can choose one of my beers (there are four of these available).
With a donation of $200, you can choose my outfit on the day of the run.
Every donation of at least $40 guarantees you entry to the Second Annual NYC Fox Hunt taking place in Central Park on October 21 (see Facebook event for more info). As many of you know, I have had the pleasure of working at MJFF since 2015, and I can personally attest that all dollars we raise are put to work by an extremely hard-working organization that is obsessed with urgency, efficiency, and accountability.

Leesburg 20k this morning. This was my longest run since the middle of July because of my heel spur. It felt great to be out there with my #crazyrunningbuddies. My foot felt a bit sore and numb but I got it done. .

The weather finally broke, and while it was still warm at times, it wasn’t humid at all. My hilly 14 mile run wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Today’s long run started at 7am 🌇 I ran from Astoria over the Queensboro Bridge into Central Park 🌳 and joined in the France Run for some fun and 9+1 credit! I was a little late and stopped to use a portapotty so I had to run at the very back of the pack 😑
.
The race was a blast 👊 Lots of fun energy (yes, I got into the spirit and wore my French running shirt from the Lege-Cap-Ferret half!) and the cool temps and rain felt amazing after all the heat we’ve had 💦 The course runs over the Harlem Hills, Central Park’s roughest incline, but I was finally warmed up and feeling good by the time I got there 😎

After crossing the finish line I stopped to use the bathroom again (pro tip: there are real bathrooms under the Bethesda Foundtain veranda/finish chute 🤫) and started to make my way back to Queens 🛣
.
I had picked up the pace a bit during the race, but tried to relax for the last 8 miles of my run. I felt pretty good as I came back over the Queensboro, continued up the waterfront from LIC to Astoria Park, and finally home 💪
.
The rain cleared out but the air stayed cool (it was actually so windy on the bridge my hat flew off and I had to chase it down 🤦‍♀️). My big pasta dinner last night and the break in the weather seem to be a good combo, and the biggest issue I had today was sore knees, no problems with hydration, fueling, or overheating 🙃
.
With three very different sections this run felt like a few different workouts all stuck together, but the variety kept me entertained! 😛 My boyfriend ran with me into the city, but we split up for the energetic and rainy race itself, and then I was truly solo for the last 8 miles 🏃🏻‍♀️ Not a bad progression for my mental game and overall a really satisfying long run 😊

This race did not start well for me. I smashed my knee into my coffee table last night and I waited up until midnight for my daughter to come home. I tossed and turned all night and decided to shut off the alarm... I was passing this race up. Thankfully, I had a secondary alarm set for 5:15 am. I got up, fed my petzels, had a protein bar with my cup of black coffee and contemplated whether or not am I going. I jumped in the shower and figured I might as well... it’s paid for. The forecast showed cloudy and cool weather.... it rained. #badweather and #stupidrain I felt bad for wife. She finally decides to come to a race and it pours. SAWRY!!! Turned out to be a pretty good race. My pace time of 8:16 is my birthday... AUGUST 16. Another day of resting.. waiting for my leg to feel better is tiring! 😴 Yesterday I did pure barre for the first time in months and I think I really screwed up my training by not strength training at all, my arms, abs and legs are SO sore. 🤯 this lack of strength killed me and resulted in this injury. 👎🏼 Thinking of changing my schedule from running 4 days a week with 2 rest days to 3 runs a week with 1 strength class and keeping the 2 rest days. 💪🏻 My hamstring was sore this morning and now I’m worried I over extended myself. The PT said I should be “pain free” for 3 days before I start running again. ⏲Going to take it easy today and keep foam rolling like I was instructed. Also it’s raining ☔️ and the perfect Sunday to watch movies all day 📺

Ran 17.57 mi with Nike⁠ Run Club. 15mi run/jog. Remainder was walk/kinda jog. The last hour of this run was extremely hard, my body was so so so tired. It did feel good to finish. When I saw 4hr run on the schedule I was like DAMN GINA (in my Martin Payne voice) you for real...lol

Peak week is done! 70 miles (112 km) for the week. Mother mature decided to turn the dial and thow everything at us: humidity + rain. Fortunately, this #longrun was perfect. Only 3 weeks until #ErieMarathon and 7 weeks until #ChicagoMarathon . Showtime is just around the corner 💪🔥🙌

138/365 W6D1 14 mile long run done. I did this one very easy as I’m still feeling a little drained. It was a tough week. This run felt good and it wasn’t super humid this morning so that was a plus as well. Then home to eat breakfast poached eggs with avocado and smoked salmon one of my favorites. Congrats to @daniraerae for getting her 14 in this morning on the @nordictrack she is doing awesome in this training cycle. Happy Sunday Funday to all. .

Sunday recovery day! How much time do you spend thinking about your recovery with respect to your training? We all worry about how many more miles we can cram into our schedules but we neglect to think about whether we have time to recover from those miles! Just because we are physically capable of running a ton doesn't mean our schedules allow us to recover properly. So next time you think about adding that extra workout into your schedule think less about whether you can cram it in and more about do I have time to recover?

Recovery takes many forms. It Can be an easy bike ride or swim, long walk, really easy short run or just a day off stretching and foam rolling! I love wearing compression socks not only during my runs but also all day for recovery. It aids in blood flow to repair our muscles! My personal favorite brand in socks is 2xu as they sell women's sizes! I also prefer compression style shorts. Right now I'm wearing Athleta All In short which is great for recovery and running!
