The #GoldenGlobes have categorised #GetOut as a comedy... 🤔🤔🤔
Hmmm the groundbreaking psychological, thriller / horror which broke box office records, bringing accolades to debut director @jordanpeele and starred our very own #DanielKaluuya... Is far from comedy to the average black... But here we are.
Peele says: “Originally, I set out to make a horror movie. I ended up showing it to people and hearing, you know, it doesn’t even feel like horror. It’s in this thriller world. So it was a social thriller... “What the movie is about is not funny... I’ve had many black people come up to me and say, ‘man, this is the movie we’ve been talking about for a while and you did it.' “Call it what you want, but the movie is an expression of my truth, my experience, the experiences of a lot of black people, and minorities. Anyone who feels like the other. Any conversation that limits what it can be is putting it in a box.” ***updated*** the film's producers submitted the film as a comedy... The rest of the discussion still stands. Especially when the director doesn't agree.
Some say that it's the best strategy, because if it is submitted as a drama it won't stand up against other contenders. 👀
So... Does categorising @getoutmovie as a comedy during awards season undermine its important racial message?
However with Get Out being recognised at awards will it mean #BritishBlacktor Daniel Kaluuya is in line to get multiple #BestActor nominations? =====================================================================================
#AwardsSeasonSoWhite or nah 👀?
