It's been almost a year that Ola and Uber have become like family to me.
It is so fascinating to witness India being part of such progress and development.
Whoever is responsible in bringing about the change, the change has worked in favour of the common man.
I remember till just a few years back we had the kala peela(black and yellow) cabs which ruled the roads.Then came the Cool cabs.Having the same features of the kala peela it gave the customers the additional comfort of an "Airconditioner". Painted in blue (maybe to convey to customers "the cooling effect" it had over it's predecessor).I remember the amount of fleasing the customers had to go through.I wouldn't say all the cab drivers were bad.But then a few rotten apples spoil the name of the entire lot. I still remember the numerous fights we as a family had with cab drivers which mostly involved the tampering of their meters which made the meters run at speeds which were even faster than the speed of light.Soon we had the Car giants i.e the Merus which were plying the roads and very soon came the TAB cabs.The kala peela and the cool cabs though not totally off the radar were now just a miniscule community living in a large, oversized and overpopulated society.
The shift to Meru/Tab were for multiple reasons
#1 Accountability was now something the Indian population was looking for and Meru and Tab were willing to give it;
#2 On call booking(including advance booking) -booking a cab had become like ordering for a pizza to be delivered at your doorstep.
#3 Sharing of details-All details were made available to the customer in an SMS which then could be shared with the customers family.
#4 Comfort and Safety-For the Indian consumers, travelling by a Meru and Tab had become more convenient, comfortable and to a great extent safe.
#5 Door to door services-one of the major reasons and a reason I strongly believe in is the convenience of having a car and a driver waiting for you at your doorstep.
44224422 I still remember -"the number" on which I made multiple calls to book Merus.
