This, boba tea lovers, is all that you'll need! The Alley LuJiaoXiang (it's quite a mouthful so I'm just calling it the Alley) has made it to Australia and people are totally loving it.
There seems to be a recent trend with all things Taiwanese coming ashore, and all for good reason! I travelled there for the first time at the start of this year & fell in love with the country - amazing amazing food EVERYWHERE, super polite people, gorgeous scenery and was spotlessly clean. I definitely recommend you going if you haven't been yet (2 weeks will allow you to drive around the entire country!) Bubble tea originated from Taiwan & has taken the world by storm for the past decade. But it seems like every year a new bubble tea brand would open up and another would close, all with very similar offerings. So when this place opened, I thought I'd check it out, though I was a bit cynical about it being 'just another bubble tea place'. Well, you'd be happy to know that it actually is quite different! Over the years I've cut down on the amount of bubble teas I bought (I had 1 a day!), mainly due to being more health conscious and not wanting to over-consume artificial flavours and syrup.
The Alley makes its own 'deerioca' onsite (so I asked them what exactly deerioca was & the response was 'Oh it's just tapioca pearls but our brand is a picture of a deer so we call it deerioca' 😂). Alright, cool cool... They make their own tapioca pearls which is cooked in a brown sugar cane syrup so the flavours are absorbed into the pearls. They then top it up with fresh milk (you can also choose tea if you wish, but I find the sweetness from the pearls and plain milk is enough). You're not meant to shake it up but just drink it straight so there's the combination of warm soft pearls with ice cold milk. It's also recommended to drink it within 30mins as the pearls harden up once cooled. The result? Yummy caramelly brown sugar flavours with soft chewy pearls & cold creamy milk.. mmmm... it's very distinct and I've had other brands of bubble teas since but it just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. This is just yum! It's dangerously addictive!
Hope you're having a deery good Saturday!
