Hey guys! ❤️ We're finally here in #Seychelles 🌴 As you all know not all trips are always smooth sailing and as always, the problem is my Philippines passport and the negative perception that I will go there to find "work" as what some Filipinos do.
So while we were at Dar Es Salaam airport in Tanzania and as I mentioned before there are many Filipinos here. We arrived at the airport at 5:45am to catch our 8:55am flight! We were only able to check in at 8am! Why? The check in agent wanted us to show proof we have money and will not work illegally in Seychelles (usually it should be the call of the Immigration and not them!) Well, we showed all of our onward flight bookings, hotel confirmation and all tours that we have! All printed, now the ridiculous one is that they wanted us to produce CASH, $150usd to show proof that we can afford the trip which is a total of $750usd for our 5 days stay. We told them we have credit cards and Visa cards, everything is arranged and we only have to pay for our food (you can pay everything on card and online). It's visa-free country for Pinoys and other nationalities, Jonathan even called the Seychelles immigration while we're on hold that we can show bank statement and credit cards but still the staff didn't let us in. They said they will call the manager, almost 2 hours later.. no one was coming but a smirking lady sitting there for hours who later on we found out is the Manager.
Arione and I were furious as we're about to miss our flight.. then that lady spoke to her finally and asked her - are you really a tourist or you plan to work there? Arione showed her that she is from the UK and told the lady that why would she work in Seychelles if she's got a full-time job in UK? In my case, I'm a nomad. Idont have residency anywhere but I showed her the stamps on my passports (old and new!). To be honest, I think that $150 has really nothing to do with it! They just wanted to check that we are not going to do find work in Seychelles ❤️
I hope us, the new generation, can change this mentality.. let's continue traveling and show them that we, Filipinos, can afford to travel! 😍 .
