We ran an experiment the other night. We took a few Oloroso-Sherry-Cask finished whiskeys and paired them with actual Oloroso Sherry. It was all about the nose. The revelation was the Kavalan red label. The nose was *identical* to the Sherry. The Glenlivet Nadurra has similarities, but not as pronounced. The Kavalan Solist is such a singular and unusual whiskey that comparing it with the Sherry took a minute, but the deep marzipan and dried apricots really shine through once you stick your snout in the glass for awhile. This is totally worth doing as a complement to a whiskey tasting. Thanks to @calster19 for sharing his stash!
