"The Guardian", 24" x 30", acrylic, 1996.
I painted this not long after I was in a near-fatal car accident. I was not seriously injured, but I thought for sure that I was going to be killed. I got hit from behind on the expressway; my car spun 180 degrees and was immediately hit head-on by a very large pickup truck. I was seriously traumatized after this event, and didn't drive on the expressway for six months as a result. Depressed, directionless, I had nothing in mind when I started this painting, but I felt like I needed to paint something. I just started in and this is what developed. Interestingly, the palette in the picture has no paint on it. I did not have a specific reason for this; it just seemed right at the time. In retrospect, perhaps some meaning could be attributed to it... #guardian #guardianangel #spiritualart #symbolism #esotericart #angel #artspirit #visionaryart ❤️
