Cockatoo Island. The joys of exploring Sydney through the eyes of a child. We spent the day celebrating a special birthday and enjoying a family adventure day at Cockatoo Island.
Located only a short ferry ride from the city is Cockatoo Island. It is Sydney Harbour's largest island and one of our most fascinating historical sites.
Between 1839 and 1869, Cockatoo Island operated as a convict penal establishment, primarily as a place of secondary punishment for convicts who had re-offended in the colonies.
Cockatoo Island is the only Sydney Harbour island where you can stay overnight. Camp or "Glamp" on one of the world's most spectacularly located campsites. For the thrill seekers you can partake in a Night Ghost Tour. I will warn you, the "Solitary Cells" were creepy by daylight and may be truly terrifying at night. #cockatooisland #sydneyconvicts
