🔴HOW TO SPOT THE SQUAT🔴
✅When it comes to spotting the squats, the spotter has to "prevent" the squatter from falling down and hurting himself/herself.
This does NOT mean helping people actually perform the reps (which is tupically what people do) but rather help them only in case they can't lift the load.
What the spotter has to do is prevent the person from falling forward, which is the case 9 times out of 10, so that the squatter doesn't hurt himself (typically the lower back!) -
The spotter has to be close enough but not too much: this will help the squatter perform the rep with proper ROM. -
Hands have to be put around him, with the palms facing his chest. Why ? Because if falling, that'll prevent him from rounding his back, and then, by simply applying some force oh his chest, he'll be able to get in an upright position again, and lift the bar up. -
What about women? Do you grab 'em by the breasts? Well, it's not like the mechanics change so... yeah, with her consensus, you should do the same as you would for men. -
❌ The typical "yeah I spot you bro" gym bro grabs you from the love handles and doesn't even apply any force. In rare occasions they actually "hug you" putting their arms around you like a belt, and squat down with you all the way down. Because bromance at the gym, bro.
When the lift doesn't happen and the squatter falls forward, grabbing him on the mid section will have basically zero help on not rounding the back, because it will no matter what.. so yeah gym bro, next time learn how to spot a squat!
