I commonly get asked what I do for traps, and to be honest not much anymore. Since I am very trap dominant in my back, I have to focus on not overly utilizing them. However, today I decided to end my chest and shoulder workout with a trap exercise. To do: set up a couple of plates to stand on so you can get a full stretch. Select a moderately heavy weight that you can control up and down without incorporating any other muscles. Grab both handles, step on the plates, and lean slightly forward and let the weights pull your arms down and fully open your scapula. While remaining leaned forward, shrug and try to bring your scapula back together (imagine brining your shoulders up to your ears and squeezing your shoulder blades together). Lower the weight slowly until your scapula is fully open again. Repeat. Bookmark this and try it out next time you are working traps and let me know what you think. I find it much more effective then grabbing some dumbbells and slinging them around.
