If you’re looking for an exercise that absolutely annihilates the hamstrings and posterior chain yet also improves lower body mechanics, you’ll want to start incorporating this #dailymusclemorsel.
Here’s one of my awesome clients and national figure competitor @lpetchlee1 demonstrating a Hanging Band Pullup Leg Curl, in both a unilateral and bilateral fashion. To perform this movement simply hold a pullup or chin-up position at the 90 degree position, place a band on your leg(s) with a weight hanging from it, and perform leg curls.
There are 7 reasons why this leg curl variation is so brutally effective at torching the hamstrings.

1. This leg curl requires incredibly strict knee flexion mechanics as it literally forces your body into a tight and rigid position with little if any room for deviations. Even if you’re able to miraculously work around these constraints, any cheating, shifting, wiggling, or compensation, will cause the weight to swing in an uncontrollable fashion which will also cause your whole body to swing.
2. If you ever watch individuals perform leg curls they almost always have faulty alignment at some area of their lower body whether it’s the knees, hips, ankles, or feet. Even on TRX and Swiss ball variations you can slightly get away with these aberrations. With the hanging band pullup leg curl you’ll be forced to assume perfect alignment in the lower body.

3. A very common problem on leg curls is trying to curl past 90 degrees. Like most movements the 90-degree position represents the optimal stopping point not only for achieving maximal recruitment but for instilling optimal movement mechanics. 👉The body moves as an integrated system. So it should be trained as one! Logical, isn't it?⠀
👉One such exercise is the hamstringcurl with pilates ball, where the deep abdominal muscles must work together with the pelvic floor, glutes and inner thighs to maintain stability as the hamstrings bend the knees.⠀
👉This type of stability is particularly important for runners, as well as those who suffer from back, hip, knee and/or ankle pain.⠀

🔺Legs should be parallell with toes pointing straight up toward ceiling, spine is neutral, feet slightly apart.⠀
🔺Activate inner thighs by squeezing ball slightly between legs while pressing heels down into the ball.⠀
🔺Maintain points of connection as hips lift straight up toward the ceiling - keep abs engaged to avoid arching the low back. Shoulder blades broad against the floor.⠀
🔺Pull heels in toward sitting bones, keeping inner thighs activated to avoid knees falling out to the sides. Hips are level and spine remains neutral.⠀
🔺Extend legs back, initiating from the sitting bones and elongating the leg out and away from the hip - feel here that the glutes are supporting the leg from underneath.⠀
🔺Repeat.⠀

If you don't know the importance scapular stability by now, then look back at our previous shoulder posts! A weak Serratus Anterior can lead to poor scapulo-humeral rhythm (episode 220 for more info) and shoulder impingement.
Here is a great way to stabilize/strengthen the entire shoulder girdle including but not limited to the rotator cuff muscles and the serratus anterior.

To perform this exercise properly:
1️⃣Set yourself up with feet hip width apart and one arm supported on the Swiss Ball in front of you.
2️⃣Push away your shoulder blade (protract your scapula) and walk back until you feel a good challenge for your shoulder musculature, (the farther you walk back, the higher the demand). CAUTION: make sure to AVOID your scapular internally rotating or giving the appearance it is sticking out; this may occur if this exercise exceeds your capacity, march your feet closer if this occurs.
3️⃣Going up on your toes will increase the load you must push in the Swiss ball with you supporting arm.
4️⃣You can maintain this position here for time, or to add a dynamic component, begin performing circles with the swiss ball clockwise and counterclockwise.
✅I typically like to perform this for 10 repetitions each direction per arm for 3 sets
✅If you want an additional challenge bend your elbow just a little bit.

📝 To make this exercise even MORE functional, what you can do is rotate your body 30 degrees away from your stabilizing arm (for this video I would rotate to the left); this will put your shoulder in the SCAPTION plane allowing for more optimal muscle length of the shoulder stabilizers thus increasing their activity.

Séance bas du corps, première fois qu'on recommence des vraies séances bas du corps depuis l'opération. 🙈 Elle était top la séance 😊

Les quadri recrutent assez bien et fort sur les fentes chez moi donc on ajoute les hip thrust pour harmoniser tout ça 😇💪 . Depuis l'opération on ne faisait que les fentes en léger pour l'entretien en travaillant sur la propreté du mouvement.
Maintenant les choses sérieuses reprennent 😂😂🌈 Hier on a aussi réintroduit les curl inclinés 🏋😊 J'espère que votre week end c'est bien passé ❤😘❤
