— I went to Rehoboth Beach the other day & found out the hard way that sand + locs don’t mesh well. Nevertheless, I swam until I couldn’t swim anymore. Any loc’d gals have any suggestions on swimming with locs? 🌊

I had the pleasure of swimming next to an incredible lady this afternoon, who is blind. I used to see her at another location when I was training for my full distance tri in 2014. She was amazing then, using pennies to count her laps, but still getting more comfortable with swimming in her lane and sometimes clinging to the rope, gasping for air. I would think about her off and on, wondering how she was and seeing her today, four years later, inspired me so, almost to tears! Her determination and dedication was undeniable. I was in awe of her confidence, swimming mainly in the center of the lane and now using a beaded necklace to count her laps. It was a great reminder that we get to do “this” bc we choose and to never let fear stand in your way. When we get discouraged, frustrated, or feel like making excuses, there are those with physical, developmental, or mental challenges that are training longer, harder and dare I say, probably with a much better attitude, than some of us able-bodied and minded individuals. Since she couldn’t see me cheesing, watching her swim, I couldn’t help but compliment her when she was done. She smiled from ear to ear and I could tell it made her day. She certainly made mine! ☺️

Felt good to jump in the swim lane for 1000 yards, after 2 freakin’ scorching miles outside, then 2 on the dreadmill. Then, I had to make a mad dash to my son’s daycare! He was the last one there, about to be put on the curb (not really) 😂, but I have no regrets! I had 5 minutes to spare and needed this workout! Oh and whoever was begging for spring/summer in Texas, can kick rocks! 😩😂

Climbed the Greater London Loop on @gozwift for over an hour, then a peaceful, lone, 1200 yards in the pool! I don’t get in the pool often enough, but I love when I find my rhythm and feel like I could swim forever! 🙃 🏊🏾‍♂️

Decided to take a class at my gym called Aqua-Taba, which is essentially a Tabata workout in the water. It was a great way to get some cardio in while keeping it relatively low impact on my sore muscle. Don’t sleep on water aerobics y’all! We had a 15 minute ab workout in the water while floating- it was brutal! Lol

Side note- These are the times when I am SUPER happy that I chose to loc my hair, didn’t have to worry much about my hair looking crazy after the class. Just made sure I rinsed out all the chlorine and dried my hair thoroughly ✅

The weather appeared to give me a little grace mid morning, during my hour run, as the humidity dropped and a cold front came through! 🙌🏽 My body was made for cooler temps and my pace dropped almost effortlessly, at the right time into single digits! I haven’t seen an “easy” 8 min mile outside since 2014, but I’m a work in progress! 😬🤣 Then I was fortunate to get some more swimming pointers from @lindadiver79! A struggle swim for lunch; I don’t mind most long sets, but when there are multiples, or pretty much the entire set is 100’s, it drive me nuts! 🤣 Then, a five mile run this evening in the temporary, fall like temps with the little one! 🙂🎃🍂

So you want to go swimming but don't want to get your hair wet. For loose Naturals make sure to moisturize your tresses before getting in the water. The same applies for locs. After swimming wash thoroughly with a moisturizing shampoo to make sure you've gotten all the chlorine out. For looseNaturals follow with a good conditioner. For Locs no conditioner as this will cause buildup in them. However you can use a hot oil treatment in place of using conditioners. Enjoy your swim

Today was an “easy” run day, for 1 hour and 15 mins, but it got hot towards the back half, so it didn’t feel all that easy! Then more practice in the pool! My 50 yard and even longer distance times are dropping with more attention to my hip rotation. I’m not where I would like to be, but all progress is progress!

A nice 6 mile, speed progression run early this am, under the full moon and some yardage in the pool for lunch! I My swim started off like normal, then before I could finish part of my warmup, my energy plummeted out of no where. I had nothing left, zero, nada! I got out of the pool and went to my car to get some food. Once I ate, I felt better and finished the warm up and main set. Apparently, I didn’t eat enough today. I usually have a few snacks or even lunch in between workouts, but with the time flying by, I apparently skipped out on some critical calories; lesson learned! 😌

In the pool, I try to channel my inner Missy Franklin and Simone Manuel; I’m working hard, but my times have me feeling more like a manatee, just coasting along.😆 After getting some great feedback on Saturday regarding my swimming technique, I decided to really focus on my form today and include suggested drills. I tried hard to keep it all together; the turtle got slower before getting a little faster. As much as I love the water, swimming efficiently isn’t easy. I’m hoping that with continued practice, correct muscle memory with take over and maybe, just maybe, it will start to automatically click.😜

I also finished off the day with a humid, 6 mile run! I’m really ready and excited for some consistent, cool fall temps! 😩🍁🍂

You see that cute kid on the bottom right? He’s been giving me the sleeping blues, waking up often during the night! Then he wakes up smiling, all bright eyed and leaves me tired, not giving two flips about my schedule. 😂 I’m not sure if it’s the teething, but I’ll be so glad when it’s over! Ironically, I use that same exhaustion to stay focused on the scheduled sessions and finishing gives me a little energy boost to make it through the day. Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt when the old school music mixes are so good, you have to make faces like something in the air stinks! 😆 Some people are just tired. I’ll take my life tired, mommy tired, and workout tired, over the latter any day! 🤣😜

I often tell myself I’ve done this before, it’s familiar territory, and although it helps to calm my nerves, I never let myself get comfortable with that mindset. Every race, no matter how familiar or the distance, can bring on new challenges, and sometimes 💩 happens, so even if things don’t go as expected, knowing you put in the work to give it your best, sets the mind at ease!

Double work out Friday! I felt like a superhero at work with my tri kit on, underneath, until I realized after my swim that I forget a major accessory, my regular bra! Luckily I was wearing a sports bra, so a little sauna drying and on it went! 🤣 We do what we have to do, right? 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 A 2300 yard swim and 5 mile, drizzly rain run!

Some days I wonder, how the heck am I suppose to bike and run, after swimming! 😆After 3,000 yards today, all I wanted was a extensive variety of foods and a cozy bed, but I had to settle for pb&j, a piece of fruit, return to work, find time to pump, and get in time with my snotty nose babies, who by the way, love to give hugs and pass along their snots and sneezes (I'm praying the chlorine kills it all). 😷🤣 Then after work, came time to get in 5 miles, but not before pumping. 🙃 🍼 I was hoping for rain, but nope, the sun shined bright and temps felt like it was June, instead of September 🙄; and the connection on my phone was stalling my music, which is usually a great distraction, but made that five feel like it was never going to end, but it did! 🙌🏾

🙋🏽 I'm tired! Every day that I wake up extra early, sacrifice lunch or time with my family or friends, I ask myself if it's worth it. For me, it is; it's a commitment to myself, to my health. I remind myself that although my life is different, I'm still very capable. I've done this before. It's never easy, just breathe and put in the work! Take each day, each session, one day at a time! 🏊🏽‍♀️🚴🏽‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️

Although I think the hierarchy is debatable, it still reigns true that the two go hand in hand! To add to this, I'm also facing a third factor of trying to keep up my milk supply, breast feeding and pumping. Soooo, the last couple of weeks, I've been eating these lactation cookies. They are the bomb.com! I'm not one to focus solely on the scale, but I do have a range where I physically feel comfortable. I stepped on the scale and I was getting close to the higher end and also noticing some of my clothes were a little snug. My exercise has increased, and I usually start to drop a few pounds, so I had to analyze what I've been eating. Those cookies...two are like 230 calories! 😳 I never bothered to check and I've been doing some serious late night snacking, not much too unhealthy, but the calories add up quick! 😆 I guess I will give the cookies to my hubby and his worthless nipples (sorry honey 😂). They're too good to throw away and I really need to detox and go back to the basics! I have to get a good grasp on what I consider "king" of the kingdom, nutrition. 🙂
