I am a triathlete!!!
Today was incredible. Working towards this goal of completing my first triathlon was not easy but I had so much fun today it was worth it! Official time of 2:39:12 and I actually ended up 5th in my division! Awesome to be a part of the Philly Tri Team and see friendly faces out there on the course. Because I like a challenge 😝 I decided to take the Olympic distance head on for my first tri
➡️ .9 mile swim, 25.2 mile bike, 6.2 mile run
Water temp was 89 degrees at 7am 😳 so wetsuits were not allowed and frankly the water was pretty freaking uncomfortable. Took me about 500 meters to get in the grove with my pace, breathing, and sighting. Plan was not to speed through, but to feel strong and not panic in the open water (or panic about swimming with/over/under 1300 other people -- shoutout to the guy who breaststroke kicked me in the ribs 👍🏻). Not my fasted 1500m, but made it out of the water under 31 minutes with a clear head and steady HR
By far, my favorite part of today. I freaking flew! I rode faster than I've ever done before (avg 21mph) and crushed my goal time! Gotta admit, passing a lot of guys on the bike was definitely a highlight 😜
Started off according to plan, but then holy calf cramp kicked in at mile 2 and I felt like my legs were seizing up and would just not move. The last 4 miles were pure torture. Run was a lot slower than I hoped and trained for, ended ~7:55 average pace for the 10k. That was pretty disappointing, especially because the run is definitely my strongest discipline.
Major shoutout to @shivsachdev who flew across the country to cheer me on today. This has been a tough year and a long hard summer apart but you support me in my crazy dreams and never doubt my abilities. I learned a lot about my limits today and where I have room to grow and where I can push myself harder. All in all, a fantastic day!
