Sunrise swim under a bright big moon. 💗 It had been two weeks since I went swimming, and both my heart and body were missing it greatly. As my run training picks up and I prepare for my half marathon later this fall, I intend to keep swimming once a week. It keeps me balanced and in tune with my body - and most importantly ... I truly love it! Especially when we get to swim outside. It's just beautiful.
Today I tried out the awesome new Iso Paddles from @finisswim - these paddles are innovative tools that a swimmer can use to isolate and train either the exterior muscles of the arm/shoulder (triceps, deltoids) or the interior muscles (biceps, pectorals) depending on which hand you hold them in. I wore my pull buoy while I used them, which really gives my legs a break and allows me to focus on my upper body and breathing techniques.
I'm not sure that swimming is for every runner, but one lesson that I learned from my overtraining and injury is that moving in more ways besides running is important for both our bodies and our minds. For our long term physical health and also for our emotional and mental well-being. So maybe give it a shot! Or go take a Pilates class 😉 Just seek out and explore new ways to move - you might just discover something amazing.
