I have been going through withdrawals for the past 4 weeks or so. Haven't had time to scratch myself let alone slip out to the dam for a flick.
Greg from Complete angler in Inverell gave me a rod on loan to test on our local steam trains. So i thought id better make an effort. Picked myself a 3 hr window in the middle of the day as i hate the cold morns.
Put a new technigue to the test with the 100mm mazzy forte along with the Defy black 8ft from 13 fishing.
Fishn vertical over the top of submerged tea tree and wattle in 20ft+ of water. I am not sponsored by 13 fishing and i have the opinion that its not the rod that catches the fish its whats on the end of the line. But a good rod and reel makes it comfortable to punch out 1000's of casts.
I dont believe in spending a gut load of money on a rod. So in saying this if you are in the market for a budget setup for swim baiting or throwing big lures, the Defy will throw up to 14oz apparently. I tested this with the heaviest lure i had, throwing a few casts of some homemade 10oz spinnerbaits and it seriously made it so easy, abit of over kill for throwing 100mm mazzys but the distance is insane.
Balance is ok and you could cast all day comfortably, but being such a strong rod with its heavy fast action it knocked the fight out of this 112cm cod in a matter of seconds. The cod had no chance to turn its head back down into the scrub i plucked it from.
Also got another little fella at 80cm and it felt like i was pulling in a much smaller fish.
Greg thought the Defy black was going to be priced around $150 but not 100% sure.
There is also a bigger 13 swimbait rod aswell which will suit the bank fishos. Maybe worth a look.
