The other day Luke had an evaluation with his occupational therapist. He sees his OT once a week and speech therapist twice a week. My baby has been doing this for 6 months; it has been stressful for both of us. During his evaluation Luke is prompted to do daily task. Like undressing, brushing his teeth, zipping up his jacket, etc. the therapist models it one time and Luke has to copy her. I get to observe while this evaluation is going on. There was moments where he would get frustrated and want to give up but he would take a minute and try again. My sweet boy is very determined and I absolutely love that about him. In that moment I became completely overwhelmed with pure happiness. This little boy who has all these statistics going against him, somehow finds a way to conquer every obstacle life hands him.
He made me a better person in that moment. Life is hard, plain and simple. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your social status is, everyone is struggling with something. At times you just want to give up and quit. I mean why not that’s so easy, right? Instead, take a minute and try again! I mean if a 4 year old can grasp that concept then why can’t I? #lifewithluke #autismawareness
