Sutherland Springs First Baptist will break ground May 5 on a lovely new church with a beautiful memorial tower . . . getting this painting (finally!) ready to mail today I sat and read the song lyrics that stood out most while painting . . . “

For all the things my hands have held the best by far is you”-Andrew McMahon “ I will call you by name” - Mumford and Sons “You can not wrestle a dove” -The Shins “I am not the only traveller”- Lord Huron “Shared the same space for a minute or two. And you loved me till my heart stopped beating”-Talking Heads #sutherlandsprings #sutherlandspringstexas #sutherlandspringsstrong #watercolor #mumfordandsons #theshins #andrewmcmahon #lordhuron #talkingheads

On Nov. 5, 2017, the world was shocked by the horrific mass shooting at First Baptist Church Sutherland Springs in Texas. We are uniting as a Southern Baptist family to help restore Sutherland Springs by building a new worship center and education building for this hurting church body. #GunControl is not for us... it’s for our children’s future. #GunLaws are needed in the USA 🇺🇸 to have a brighter future. #MIA

Saturday evening in the Texas countryside. Such a serene setting - so hard to comprehend what happened nearby last November. Too much pain in this little town. #sutherlandsprings #whitehallmansion #tragic #remembrancesallaround

For those still sleeping, rest in peace.
As the state promises #gunrights activists they’re not coming for their guns, behind the scences they’re pleading for it to happen. And now the feared #gungrab is occurring. Residents in #Deerfield, #Illinois have 60 days to surrender their “#assaultweapons” or face fines of $1000 per day per gun.

The gun ban ordinance was passed on April 2nd with residents left with few choices of how to dispose of their valuable “assault weapons.” Upon careful reading of the ordinance, residents will be left with revolvers, .22 caliber “plinking” rifles, and double barrel shotguns to defend their homes and families from criminals who could care less about the law.

Fines for not disposing of the weapons range from $250 to $1000 per day per gun for those who choose not to comply with the city’s ordinance. While a fine may seem reasonable to some, as we have reported on multiple occasions, failure to pay fines always results in police action. It is not far-fetched to predict major turmoil and arrests in the event of non-compliance.

One example of the so-called “assault weapon” is the Ruger 10/22 which can accept magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Even though the 10/22 is not listed in the list of guns the village wants to see banned, the gun cannot legally be possessed in the village.

Residents have been instructed to either sell their guns, transfer the ownership to someone who lives outside the village, surrender their guns to Deerfield’s sheriff, or begin paying the fines.

Deerfield mentioned a number of cities where mass shootings took place, including #SutherlandSprings, #Texas where 26 people were killed in the First Baptist Church. That shooting was actually stopped by a man who used the very gun Deerfield voted to ban. No mention was made of that fact in the ordinance.

Also included in the gun ban were semi-automatic pistols which can accept higher than 10 round magazines. That’s virtually all full size semi-automatic pistols. 🖐🏾More in comments👇🏾#GunControl #2ndAmendment #PoliceState #MartialLaw - #regrann

{story shared with permission/emotional content} We want to tell you about our friend Crystal. Radiant in a beautiful and subtle way... kind... joy filled... Mother to 5 older children, Crystal was very excited – though surprise – to be expecting baby number 6. Midwife Heather says she had a way of drawing you into her circle of light. And then the due date... April 12, 2018... Though not an expiration date, it was the date of possibility. The date that represented the end of the journey, baby coming in to mama’s arms, daddy holding baby close, siblings oooing and ahhhing, and coming home to make them a family of 8. Midwife Jess says Crystal radiated joy and excitement for the future as she talked about her children, her husband John, and the extended family she married into several years ago. And like so many mamas, she was thrilled to hear the tiny heartbeat of her baby at her prenatal visits. Crystal told us she was bringing the whole family to the ultrasound so they could all see their baby and find out if it was going to be a sister or a brother. The older siblings had nicknamed the little one Billy Bob while they waited to find out exactly who this baby would be. And then, one Sunday, for no reason... Crystal and little baby Carlin, Gregory, Emily and Megan - along with many other family and friends - senselessly taken... It has been a little over five months since the survivors of the tragic killings at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs have bravely faced each new day. It is been a bit over 23 weeks since family and friends have had to find their way along life‘s journey without their loved ones. And today... April 12th... Crystal’s anticipated due date. The expected date that baby Carlin Brite Billy Bob would join the Holcombe family. Today we shared tears of remembrance and sorrow and love. We remembered in tangible ways, and officially claimed Crystal and John’s baby Carlin as one of our April babies. John, Philip and Evelyn - we love you from the bottom of our hearts. #faith #hope #love #thegreatestoftheseislove #neverforget #sutherlandsprings #togetherwedohardthings #wherefamiliesbloom

And this is one of the many reasons I know my God is good and that He is real...although the devil tried to steal joy and crush hope, the faith of this congregation is stalwart and their unwavering trust in Jesus is amazing. The time we have on this earth isn’t guaranteed, but God’s goodness is so much better than anything we could imagine, and I’m so thankful to Jesus for the life we have through Him. “I am bound for the promised land, oh who will come and go with me, I am bound for the promised land.” #tlu #tluchoir #sutherlandsprings #choir #choirtour

With all of the recent shootings and gun violence, I've been praying and asking God to help us. Not just as a nation but as a broken and misshapen race worldwide. The Father has been watching us from above as we continue to lean upon our own twisted and wayward understanding rather than His own wisdom and guidance. There's been too many of our children, mothers, fathers, loved ones, etc. who have died because we want to keep what we think is what gives us the right to protect ourselves when we've always had God to turn to all along. Have we forgotten who He is? Does He no longer love us? Provide for us? Allow us second chances even when we don't deserve them? Have we forgotten His unrelenting mercy and tenderness so much to the point where we now have trusted weapons of destruction rather than the power of the Creator of the Universe? We need to turn from our wicked ways and back to the source of our existence. We need to stop and think when all we are doing is reacting and not realizing the consequences of our actions. For the Lord has spoken! #nomore #MajoryStonemanDouglas #Columbine #SanBernardino #SandyHook #SchoolShootings #SutherlandSprings #ChurchShootings #LasVegasShooting #God #Jesus #Lord #NRA #guncontrol #gunviolence
