A short clip of my old girl Susie, who is the heart behind Susie's Senior Dogs! ☺️ This video was taken only a couple weeks or so before she left this earth forever. Life happens so quickly for dogs. It's not until long after her passing that I can see how very old she truly was. And I was honestly more in love with her then than the day before that. And the day before that one. I am grateful to our small-practice veterinarian who was the gentle, compassionate, senior dog-loving, and guiding voice at Susie's very end of life. I learned so much throughout caring for Susie; and I've learned so much since her passing just 16 months ago. Welcoming senior dogs into your home is such an incredible gift; saying goodbye can be the most heartbreaking experience to endure. Everything in between will always be worth it. And I truly believe the love of an old dog changes everyone who accepts the privilege. πŸ’› #susiewenttoheaven #seniordogs

Once upon a sweet, sweet Susie. So glad and thankful these two precious souls overlapped living together in our home. πŸ’πŸ’ #susiewenttoheaven #alwayschooseadoption

Tonight we bow our heads and have a moment of silence for @susiethedoggie / @susiesseniordogs who crossed the rainbow bridge today. Susie, you inspired me to go out and look for the oldest dog at the rescue. We found Eddie and our lives have been changed for the better. Eddie is the perfect dog and now he is in a loving forever home. Thank you for showing the world how much a senior dog has to offer. #susiewenttoheaven #adoptaseniordog #adoptasenior #seniordogsrule

We are so sad to hear of @susiethedoggie crossing the rainbow bridge today. She doesn't know it but she changed the world for senior dogs in shelters. I'm so grateful we all got to see her beautiful life. ❀️😒🌈#susiewenttoheaven

Boca and Tuppi sending all their love to @susiesseniordogs today. We love you @susiethedoggie. πŸ’• #susiewenttoheaven #suthie

You will be missed sweet Susie. You changed the world, along with your mom and dad and Simon. #susiewenttoheaven

We just saw that our friend Susie has passed. Susie was an inspiring pup, and her parents started a movement in her honor while she was alive that will only continue to grow and help save more pups. We were honored when they posted our sweet girl Shoshana and helped her find her amazing family. I only regret that we never got to meet her personally, although I (Penny's mom) have met Erin a few times and she is as great as she seems. My heart breaks for her tonight. All of the #muddypawspack hearts are with @susiesseniordogs, her parents and brothers. Thank you Susie, for everything. #Repost @susiesseniordogs with @repostapp.

Our little Susie has passed away. It hurts the heart so much, but Susie's dad and I were so privileged to have her for the last five years of her nearly 17 year long life.
Although she was already an old lady when she became ours, we certainly had many "firsts" together. We have a lot of special memories and this photo is of one of them from an adventure a few years back. Susie came with us anywhere and everywhere she could, she was a fantastic travel companion!
Thank you to everyone who has regularly followed Susie's senior journey and cared so much about her. Most important, thank you to everyone who has been inspired by Susie to adopt an old dog of your own. She is the first of adopted senior dogs in our own personal lives and we would adopt her again 100 times over. Susie was a gift and she has certainly spurred a movement bigger than she'll ever know.
SSD will keep spreading the word for all the "little old Susie's" out there. They are all one in a million. ❀️ #susiewenttoheaven

IT'S WITH A HEAVY HEART TO SAY THE SWEETEST LITTLE GIRL SUSIE HAS CROSSED OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE. MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO HER BEAUTIFUL MOMπŸ’• RIP LITTLE ANGELπŸ•ŠπŸŒΉ repost via @instarepost20 from @badassbrooklyn
A TRUE BADASS. Our beloved friend Susie of @susiesseniordogs passed away on Friday. Almost 17 years old, Susie spent the last 5 years adoring and being adored by the very best humans, inspiring and leading a sea change in senior pet adoption. As her Dad Brandon wrote on Humans of New York, she introduced him to "a dog's unexplainable and unconditional love" and helped Mom Erin O'Sullivan to see that they were needed by other old pups. SSD was born and they began spreading the word to help all of the really great, overlooked seniors find loving families. They helped several Badasses, including making a famous match for our Bart Simpson. We were blessed to get to know Miss Susie herself at adoption events, parties, and even honoree at last year's Badass Bash, where she brought her whole family. She was Badass to the bone and it was clear immediately how she came to lead the movement. Susie was a special lady, whom we'll all miss dearly. Our condolences go out to Susie's family and everyone else who loved her so. Thank you, Susie, for the indelible mark you left that will be changing and saving lives for years to come. #susiewenttoheaven #seniordogsΒ #instarepost20

Have waited for this time when her photos and videos finally bring smiles and not instant tears. ☺️ Susie, you'll always be my most special one! πŸ’ #seniordog #susiewenttoheaven #shewouldtellyoutoadopt

One year ago today, in the afternoon of Friday, April 22nd, 2016, we said goodbye to our sweet Susie girl. She is the sole inspiration behind Susie's Senior Dogs and the reason this organization was created. Susie was the one who opened my eyes to see a need that I didn't know existed prior to having Susie in our life. She is the first dog who I really had a strong bond with, and caring for her created something special between us. We adopted Susie at the age of 12 (or so), and she was with us for five and a half years until she passed away at the remarkable age of 17. She will forever be our first "senior love." For those of us who are lucky enough to have relationships with animals know that it is truly a one of a kind love. Strong love and emotions are not just limited between human beings. And only some of us are blessed to experience this. In many ways, language with words hinders humans. How many times do you feel a strong emotion, or something of the like, but simply "can't put it into words?" Animals speak a different kind of language, one where words are not needed. And for those who have a meaningful relationship with their pets you know exactly what this feels like.

What I learned from my little Susie is that this strong bond can happen at any age with a pet. Susie came into our life when she was already 12 years old, and yet I don't feel that I missed out on anything with her. Of course I wish more than anything that I could have Susie (and any animal I will ever love) with me for my entire lifetime. But since that isn't possible I am thankful I found a special love with her for those five and half years together. Five and half years of memories that will always be mine and Susie's.

Many of us get pets for different reasons. Their companionship, their cuteness...so many things we tell ourselves. For anyone considering bringing a living creature into their home, I encourage you to really consider the reason you are doing it. Please consider falling in love with a homeless animal, regardless of what they look like or how old they may be. There is so much love out there just waiting to be found...if only we will give them a chance.πŸ’• #susiewenttoheaven

Thank you @susiesseniordogs for sharing our special guy❀️Even though #susiewenttoheaven she still changes the world. MN: Have you ever seen a cuter set of ears? O.M.ADORABLE! 10 year old George is the face of youth with a heart of pure innocence. He is a cuddly love muffin who has been looking for a forever home for three months already. George is friendly with other dogs and what most people would consider a "low maintenance" companion. Not that we have to remind SSD followers, but it's his double-digit age that cause people to pass him over. Poor guy. PLEASE SHARE.
George weighs 14 pounds, has five teeth, he's housetrained, and he's ready to go home today! He must be adopted within the state of Minnesota.
Good Karma Animal Rescue of MN wrote, "George came to us back in early January at 10 years young and with only a few remaining teeth. His needs are simple: A.) He wants a very soft, very fluffy blanket that he can curl up and hide under. B.) He loves his food, and LOVES getting treats! C.) He wants to be loved!
George is such an easy-going and loving little man, and asks so little of you. He loves, LOVES to curl up on a soft blanket (he likes the fuzzy ones the best) situated in a small patch of sunshine, where he will nap through lazy afternoons. He also loves to go for leisurely strolls or rides in the car, and is happy to greet all of the fine folks that he may see along the way! George also really enjoys meal and treat time. He will spin on command if you have a treat, and will even dance his very Happy Dance in anticipation! He is an absolute JOY to have around, and he will make his perfect home 100% happier because he resides there!
Living with George is a simple as the ABC's He is sweet as the day is long, guaranteed to keep you smiling, and there will never be a day that goes by that you do not feel loved! Three months is too long for him to be waiting to meet the love of his life.

Good Karma adopts out animals within a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities, or a 30 minute radius of Duluth and Rochester Minnesota." To adopt George, please email Jeni at jeni.goodkarma@gmail.com.

My forever Valentine. πŸ’˜

She wasn't a small dog. She wasn't a Chihuahua. She wasn't anything about how she looked. Susie was the one to show me that age and breed are irrelevant when it comes to falling in love. Susie was the one to bring me awareness on the plight of homeless senior dogs and their need for the spotlight. She was spunky and independent, yet always wanting human companionship. Although she had spent her first 11 years with one owner who treated her well and loved her, soon after adoption she became incredibly attached to our little family, too. Susie showed us the beauty of old dogs...and, actually, we never really thought all that much of her as an "old dog." We had five glorious years with Susie and that's what was meant to be. Susie gave me a passion in life and she will forever be my little old Valentine. Forever. And ever. I love you, Susie! πŸ’ #myvalentine #susiewenttoheaven
