I started watching #SurvivorMaryland years ago, before I ever went on the real show. It was heads and shoulders above every other fanmade #Survivor out there (and definitely worth a watch if you have never seen it, just YouTube it!). @atrupp (the host) and I became friends, and fast forward a few years and I get invited to play in a surprise game of Survivor Maryland for Austin as a thank you to honor all his years of work on the series, as he wraps up his final episode in the coming weeks. We played a full game in a day, and even though Austin turned on me and I got blindsided in a 5-4 vote (with a vote steal in my pocket! Gahhh!!), the day could not have been scripted better. My girl @sundaysurvivor, who had never seen Survivor Maryland, knew next to no one, and was the sole Gen Xer in a sea of Millennials, won the game beating Austin in 5-4-1 vote!!! Sunday never got the credit or airtime she deserved in the CBS show, so watching her dominate, find and successfully play a hidden immunity idol, win the final 4 endurance challenge, and have every single person in the game wanting to work with her made my heart swell. I know how much this win felt like vindication for her, and I was honored that I could witness it and everyone could see what I had always seen in her. Austin also played an incredible game, with a massive target on his back, and would have been an equally impressive winner. Loved meeting everyone on the cast and crew and congratulations to you all on pulling off this surprise for Austin so perfectly. Can’t wait for the finale of Survivor Maryland All Stars!
