Love @viceuk’s video about the Gender Recognition Act consultation. The government are asking the public whether it should be made easier for trans people to have their gender legally recognised. It is a historic opportunity to improve trans rights!
The consultation closes on Friday THIS WEEK so please please please please if you haven’t already filled it in, please do. Feel free to DM us for advice on filling it out - more than happy to help!
Link to consultation in @recognise.me bio! Or go to @transmissions4lyf tonight to fill it in with them!

Hi, I’m queer! And, I will do everything I can to uphold a safe classroom space where your exploration/acceptance of identity is welcomed, no matter if you’re out or not, or not sure yet, or not safe anywhere but the classroom. I introduce myself w/ pronouns & ask for pronouns in classes, as well as note that students are welcome to update pronouns throughout the semester. We discuss respecting identities at every intersection. Classrooms were not safe for me in the evangelical religious schools I attended growing up. I was taught that you couldn’t even be friends with queer people; the best you could do was try to get them to see their sin & repent, but that you had to walk away from them if they didn’t. A teacher I had from 5th-8th grade, who kept in contact with me to adulthood, told me how very wrong I was in a long email after I finally came out to him. He was the only adult I trusted growing up, and I can’t forget how I felt like a stranger to the world after that email, like no one could ever find out who I really was and still talk to me.
It took moving away from my small town and finding queer friends before I was able to look at myself in the mirror without crying. I may change my pronouns soon, but I’m okay with considering myself longer and not doing that this Coming Out Day. I hope to always be learning about myself & growing. And I promise to keep learning & growing to uphold safe spaces for students. Thanks for loving me & encouraging me, queer family. I tell people now that I’ll say a prayer to Cher for them, since she’s the only god I pray to (and I’ll respect whatever your god might be, too). 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

Mental health and being trans or/and queer/not straight

For many people, a coming out isn't an event that only happens once.
We have to explain, justify and fight for recognition and rights every day.
We have to 'come out' bc there are norms which exclude us and our realities of life. #smashnorms

Getting to know yourself better and being proud of yourself isn't easy and it is a process.
It's okay to not share your coming out with anybody. And it is okay to tell it everybody.

It is important to talk about mental health. (Everybody should talk about it more)
You are not alone. We are not alone.
It is okay to ask for support.
*Your worthy is not measured by your productivity.* Support and protect queer youth and non conforming people. 💜

Happy National Coming Out Day... It occurred to me that I never really officially came out to everyone (Still very Trans... Still very Pan...s 😆). My Mom, taking some "loving mom initiative" actually sent a letter to her side of the family telling them... So, that means it basically happened, umm, without me doing the terrifying-exciting-empowering... amazing-horrible-sad-joyous part. I hope that our community sharing their stories makes it easier for anyone who feels it's their time. Just know you are loved!!!!!

Today I’m reposting from @sarah.epperson. Thank you for your incredible work and awareness. To anyone feeling overwhelmed and alone, there is help. “Blake Brockington was a transgender activist who was committed to raising awareness about police brutality and violence. “Blake Brockington was the first transgender homecoming king in North Carolina. He died by suicide less than a year later.
In a national study, 40% of transgender adults reported having made a suicide attempt. 92% of these individuals reported having attempted suicide before the age of 25.

You know that feeling, when you feel like you're the happiest you've ever been in your life?

Today for LGBTQ History Month, we celebrate Gilbert Baker. “I love going to cities around the world and seeing the rainbow flag.” Gilbert Baker was an American artist and LGBT activist best known for creating the rainbow flag. The flag provided a defining symbol for the LGBT civil rights movement and is considered the first and most widely recognized gay symbol today.

Growing up gay in the small rural town of Chanute, Kansas, Baker felt like an outcast. After spending a year in college, he was drafted into the army and served as a medic. He was stationed in San Francisco, where he remained for most of his life.

Baker became friends with Harvey Milk, a gay rights leader and among the first openly gay politicians elected to public office. A member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Milk asked Baker to create a symbol for the gay rights movement. Baker flew his first rainbow flag at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978, where roughly a quarter of a million marchers participated. Milk was assassinated in November of that year. Following Milk’s death, demand for Baker’s flag increased dramatically.

With the help of volunteers using trash cans of dye, Baker made his first flag in the attic of the Gay Community Center of San Francisco. The original design included eight stripes: pink for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for the sun, green for nature, turquoise for magic, blue for peace and purple for the human spirit.

Many years and flags later, the self-described “gay Betsy Ross” spent months creating a 30-foot wide, mile-long flag featuring just six colors of the rainbow. Commissioned in 1994 for the 25thanniversary of the Stonewall riots, it was hoisted by thousands of New York City marchers. The Guinness Book of World Records officially declared it the largest flag in the world.
