Today, while trying to film the #marchforsciencenyc under pouring rain, I bumped into Narayana Angulo volunteering for the march. I will assume most of you don't devour documentaries like I do. Narayana is one of 7 brothers who were raised in isolation by their parents in a building in NYC. They were never allowed to step out of the apartment for any reason. Their dad is an extremist. To pass time they start recreating blockbuster movies scene-by-scene, creating props, costumes, and stages with whatever they had inside their tiny apartment. Then one day, one of his brothers rebels and sneaks out of the house and into the real world and their entire lives changed from that day on. If you want to know what happened, the documentary is called "The Wolfpack" (yes, it's on Netflix), and if it matters, it won the U.S Documentary Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.
I happened to be the one person to recognize him in a crowd and after a quick exchange, he looks at my camera rig and asks if I'm a filmmaker. Good question.
