Most of us have lost touch with natural, healthy HUNGER CUES. My friend Carissa Casey really spoke to my heart and speaks TRUTH when it comes to many of our thoughts on food. 👇👇 “Our culture has told us for decades that you have to restrict, reduce, and track calories in order to look the way you want... no room for LISTENING to your body and feeding it with #intuition and #kindness.
And at the same time... this very same culture telling us to OBSESS over every bite we eat is also propagating a Standard American Diet that is just that- S.A.D. when it comes to ACTUALLY making us healthy. It’s artificial... processed... preserved... and nutrient-poor. Convenient though! #cuzpriorities 🤦🏻♀️ (And super handy if you’re a culture whose economy circulates billions of dollars in drug sales to “treat” the sick fat people it is CREATING.) I’ve been a casualty of this broken “health culture.” Many times.
But I’ve also been on a healing journey! 🙌🏼 🖤The first milestone in my healing was counseling with a FANTASTIC therapist when I was in college. 🖤The second milestone in my healing was ACCEPTING my heavenly father’s love and salvation totally apart from my attempts to achieve whatever “ideal” I was striving for. 🖤The third milestone in my healing was supplements. Plant-based supplements that helped undo what my well-meaning but quite misled lifetime of dieting had done.... supplements that RE-CONNECTED me with the HEALTHY HUNGER SIGNALS my body was designed to have from birth. For the first time I could remember, I was off the insulin roller coaster and healing my gut... and happily eating normal-person portions of whole, nourishing foods because I wanted to! Because I was satisfied and full and not feeding a sugar-craving yeast beast in my gut. Not because a calorie tracking app told me to or because of what time it was on the clock.
For the first time since childhood, I was listening to my BODY and my body was finally able to talk to me the way it should have been able to all along! 🙌🏼
