Most of us have lost touch with natural, healthy HUNGER CUES. Iโ€™ve been a casualty of this broken โ€œhealth culture.โ€ Many times.
But Iโ€™ve also been on a healing journey! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ–คThe first milestone in my healing was counseling with a FANTASTIC therapist when I was in college. ๐Ÿ–คThe second milestone in my healing was ACCEPTING my heavenly fatherโ€™s love and salvation totally apart from my attempts to achieve whatever โ€œidealโ€ I was striving for. ๐Ÿ–คThe third milestone in my healing was supplements. Plant-based supplements that helped undo what my well-meaning but quite misled lifetime of dieting had done.... supplements that RE-CONNECTED me with the HEALTHY HUNGER SIGNALS my body was designed to have from birth. For the first time I could remember, I was off the insulin roller coaster and healing my gut... and happily eating normal-person portions of whole, nourishing foods because I wanted to! Because I was satisfied and full and not feeding a sugar-craving yeast beast in my gut. Not because a calorie tracking app told me to or because of what time it was on the clock.

A craving is when only one specific type of food sounds appetizing. True hunger is when ANY food sounds good.

When we can start to *feel* a difference between hunger and cravings, it can help us to reconnect with our bodyโ€™s hunger signals. Are we actually hungry or just wanting to eat a specific food out of stress/boredom/habit/etc.? Seeking to understand what our body is telling us will ultimately lead to that ever-so-vague concept of โ€œmindful eatingโ€ or โ€œintuitive eating.โ€

I'm on a train travelling home from a long work day. I'm a bit bored. I'm not really hungry because I had a decent (and fairly healthy) lunch. But MAN am I craving a flapjack right now.
How all-consuming are sugar cravings??? It's madness! I don't need flapjacks.... I'm not even hungry gaaaah. So to distract myself I've made myself a badge in ANTICIPATION of getting off this train without getting a damn flapjack.
